So, I've been looking more into army storage solutions, and I'm very seriously considering a battlefoam case for Christmas.
I was just wondering if people had any opinions on them and their products. I'm personally pretty impressed by their level of customization of their trays and modular foam and case design.
But I'm not sure if there are similar products out there on the market. I forum searched and found mention of a KT website, but I didn't think the foam was much cheaper, and couldn't find their case prices, maybe I'm just blind.
At any rate, I need a BIG case, because I can't be bothered to choose what I should bring, apparently. So, I'm looking at their 1520 model, which is $300, which isn't nothing, but considering it'll be protecting, storing, and easily transporting many times that dollar amount, I don't think it's a terrible deal. And I hate having to make multiple trips.
At any rate. Just curious for opinions and alternatives for a BIG army. Because I'm easily filling their 1520 model with my infantry alone.

I have the shield bag and can easily fit my 3000 point black templar army in it.
I recommend buying enough trays for your models and swapping the trays in and out of the main case which is what I do.
I really do like the bag and it's been worth the money I've spent on it so far

I have the Flames of War bag and I love it. The quality is very good. The bag is solid and durable (I have it for more than 3 years now, and look like new).

Yeah, I liked that capability as well, i'll probably buy other trays from them in the future to swap stuff out as needed.

Even after KR re-did their website, it’s still not the best.
A Kaiser 3, with army-specific trays, is going to run $250. The next step up is a Kaiser 4, at $300.
I can normally pack 2,000 points of marines is 2 KRU worth of space, so could probably get 3,000 points into my Kaiser 3 if I put my mind to it. Of course, different armies pack differently, so YMMV.
For reference, I’ve spent about $375 on KR. Admittedly, I got my one-and-half boxes during a BOGO sale. Total of 7 KRU worth of foam, and a Kaiser 3 to drag it to the FLGS.

I own a pretty good amount of Battlefoam, and I haven't regretted the expense. It is pricy, between high cost and shipping, but they run a good Black Friday sale that helps. They are not the friendliest company, but the product is top notch. The foam is sturdy enough to stack on shelves when not being transported, which helps those with very large collections.
Generally, the best way to buy in is to buy a bag with either a standard or pluck tray load, and then buy specific trays.

I love the battlefoam cases but I dislike the harder foam they use as it requires tray depth and cell size to be overspecified in order to accommodate all poses. The softer KR foam accommodates variations much better. (my Malifaux minis are in a battlefoam case with KR foam)
Also, the KR modular system is much better for an army that's going to continue to grow as accommodating additions is much easier.
I've currently got 31 multicases as well as Kaiser 2, 3 and 4 cases.

Thanks for the black Friday tip, it is right around the corner. I also didn't think about the shipping, and checked it out, and turns out they're in Arizona, and I'm in Colorado, so shipping is pretty reasonable ($30).
I definitely think I'll make an order on black Friday. Thanks for the thoughts.

I have bought on Black Friday, and will again.
BUT! Be prepared to wait until January to get your gak.
I wasn't in a hurry, and won't likely be next order, but you should know there is a wait.

I have a single Battlefoam bag and probably wouldn't buy anything else from them. The bag, while okay, is not worth the money I spent on it. The fabric is poor, the trays are pain in the ass to get in/out of it and the corners of the trays up top/bottom get curled in because the bag isn't cut very well.
I don't own any competitive products short of some old citadel foam I put into a pelican case (which works exceptionally well). I'd have tried KR first but their website is just terrible. I bought some simple single-layer cardboard cases from Miniature Market a long time ago and they're quite good for simple 25-28mm figures.

I like mine, just stick with the hard cases over the softcases. While the soft ones are a really good value they can squish really easily. That aside the foam is good quality, and depending on your army they have lots of helpful suggestions on how to get the right case for your models. The deeper the better, you can store guardsman in the 1 inch case and it can be a tad cramped if you have a lot of bayonets but the 55+ trays make for excellent storage. After using both battlefoam and army transport I heartily recommend the former. Its costly but as my parents say "you get what you pay for" when it comes to going cheap on something you already invested a ton of money in.

Howabout magnetizing models? For protection that is THE method as your models will not touch ANYTHING, not even foam while being carried in the box. Only thing touching anything is botttom of base to the sheet of metal in the box.
Only headache left would be vehicles. Haven't tried magnetizing bottom of vehicles ever.

I've just picked up a KR case and I'm a big fan; comfortably got 1,000pts of Orks into a regular-sized case that pops neatly into my regular backpack.
Their website is kind of a confusing mess but once you get to grips with what's what, they way it all works is pretty straightforward and very versatile. Also, they're very helpful and pretty quick to respond if you drop them an email.
The reason I didn't go for battlefoam is I'd heard tales of the harder foam rubbing paint off models; the KR foam is similar to the stuff in my old Citadel cases and I've never had any trouble with the latter.

I also own a ton of KR stuff, and I've seen Citadel and battlefoam cases. If you can get past the terrifying website, KR is excellent. Their staff is super friendly, and the foam is nice and soft. If you have a model you, erm, "adjusted", the foam is really easy to pick and pluck.

I don't want the best army, just one that isn't an exercise in picking up my models by turn 3.

I have a 720 and foam enough for my SM army and my IG army (not counting most of the vehicles for either army. I love the bag, which I bought with a SM setup and then later purchased extra foam for my IG as a way of keeping my armies organized and ready to go in a moments notice, just put the right foam into the bad.

Indeed. My converted Warboss (based on an old, metal Ghaz, so not the lightest model), now is nice and snug in a pluck tray.
They really could do with sorting out that website though; I think it has the potential to put a lot of people off what is a really excellent product.

I fit all sorts of models in my KR trays. Pull the foam apart between slots, and poles and banners fit fine, without paint wearing off.
KR lets you load the foam trays into the hard cases (their Aluminium range) or cardboard boxes into their Kaiser bags. The foam will fit into both types.
I get to take my ~3000 point armies in a hard Alu2 case and 2 cardboard boxes in the Kaiser Backpack2, swapping the boxes as needed. All my books, dice and stuff go in the backpack.
There are some photos of my trays in here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery-search.jsp?dq=KR+Multicase&u=38888&g=22076
Get a list of models together, and email KR with it.
Their Autofit tool had problems spreading units of models across cases when I last tried it last year, listing more cases than were needed. The staff there can tell you what to order, and the price.

I'd sooner go cheaper and spend more money on models. (I use a fishing bag with plastic boxes in it) As such I don't own any but from what i have seen of my fellow gamers cases they're nice and sturdy.

I do limit what models I buy based on cases.
Also, I budget 1/3 of the price of the models as a case fund. Cases for big models cost more than 1/3, but it evens out overall.

I totally get that cases aren't an exciting thing to spend your hobby funds, but given the amount of time, money and effort I've invested in putting together my armies, I personally feel like a dead cent case is a totally worthwhile expense.
Obviously if you're not big into having your models painted fancy/at all, then obviously this is going to be less of a consideration I suppose.

Well I dropped my case once. Not much of an effect(think bottom of the case got scratched a bit). Albeit I don't drop my cases from several meters. That was just slipping from hand while carrying it.
