Hey guys,

So I wanted to take a quick poll on what everyone thinks are the best rights of war. What I mean by that is the most powerful in your meta, the lists you sit across the table from and know it's going to be one hell of a fight. So list off your top 3 and discuss.

Cheers

Umm.... you realize this is like asking "What's the most powerful formation in 40K?"

Each Legion has it's own unique Rites of War, and there are a few generic ones, but they are usually inferior to the Legion Specific RoW. As it's your army that really decides your RoW rather then the RoW deciding your army, then your question should be "What is the best Legion? What is the most powerful in your meta?"

Every meta is different, and there are still way fewer people playing 30K then 40K, any discussion being generated will be very skewed. On top of that, not all the Legions have rules yet. Many still have place holder rules.

I guess you could rate them by how well they synergise with other stuff - like Legion Special Rules. I think a lot of people would say that the Chogorian Brotherhood with the White Scars rules is really powerful, as is the Ironwing Protocols for Dark Angels. I'd say that, in general, the Legion-specific ones seem to be more powerful than the generic ones, just because they play to the Legion's strengths and thus increase how dangerous the whole army is. The generic ones tend to just allow you to spam specific sorts of units, which might or might not be powerful depending on what you've brought along!

We certainly know that there are some Rites of War that aren't very powerful - Fury of the Ancients, for example.

There certainly are formations in 40k that are a lot more powerful than others. There's a reason everyone is using riptide wings, and Gladius strike forces. So this discussion is just about what you guys think has the most synergy, that just works well on the table. You are right though that legion rules are half of it. So feel free to share your thoughts there as well.

The rites are situational; since they all have upsides and downsides, how good a rite is is entirely dependent on how well you can leverage the advantages it gives versus how well your opponent can lever the disadvantages.

For example, the Ordo Reductor rite for Mechanicum basically cannot take any robots. Robots are the primary access to long range fire support. (The Reductor get some replacement units in the form of ORATs but these are far less durable than the robots). This means that if you are a good player, you can outmaneuver the short-ranged Reductor army and win via holding open the engagement profile.

Conversely, the Legio Cybernetica rite can basically only take robots. This means that a LC list is phenomenally powerful, and possesses great durability, firepower, and combat strength. Robots, however, can never be scoring! So a good player will just hunker down on the objectives and endure, winning regardless of how many strong robots Cybernetica has.

The "best" Rite of War depends on the Legion you are taking and the composition of the Rite of War.

A Rite of War limits your Force Organization, but gives you bonuses in return. Maximizing those bonuses are what make a Legion RoW good. However, each Rite of War has some significant disadvantages.

The best RoW is Armored Breakthrough, because it lets you take an army of nothing but tanks. And tanks are <3.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
