Hey everyone, while doula life prevents me from guaranteeing that I will be at TSHFT this coming January. I am starting to consider what army I would take. I committed to focusing on Tyranids this year, and plan on doing so all the way through TSHFT. C and C appreciated. Obviously these armies are emphasizing theme and fluff over competitive, while maintaining at least a little challenge for my opponent.
I would love to know which army you would want to face for a fun game, or comment on how an army could be adjusted to fit the theme a little better.

My thoughts on thematic choice are:

Day of ascension nids: Some genestealer cult, tyrannocytes, and bugs dropped from the sky.

I like numba "2"...but one or three would be a Lot easier to play in a timed environment. If you have the figures look at making GSC your Warlord with the formation that modifies reserve roll. That might come in handy, and be a bit of a suprise...? Extra if you want to be "dropping in".

I like list 1 the best.
#2 is too fragile imo and #3 is moot once the Heiro drops (and he is likely to be nuked since hes so overcosted/underprotceted in this ed VS what other armies can put out firepower-wise).

@pinecone

I did consider the subterranean assault, however look at the fine print and "it must deploy by infiltrate at the start of the game" As currently set up, army 1 can set up only spores and have nothing that is scoring on the table for the first turn or two. Until it comes time for all of my reserves to arrive.
Hoping for that 6 on the warlord table for the patriarch is nice though, giving the mini deathstar a guaranteed charge upon arrival.

The swarm list is actually an alteration of the army that I brought to last TSHFT, although including endless swarm. While it can be challenging to get through a full game in the 2 1/2 hours allotted, 50% of my games came to a natural conclusion. The three that did not I lost terribly because we were in turn 2 or 3 and the overwhelming numbers attrition game had not worked its magic yet.

@Ratius
While army 2 individual models are fragile, there are so many of them, and the threats begin turn one, I've found that the swarm is really hard to deal with. Infiltrating units that have to be taken care of immediately draw too much fire away from the following swarm to do much turn one, especially with the void shield. Turn two your too busy killing hormagaunts and finishing the infiltrators to deal with the synapse creatures, so while you lay waste to 70-80 models. By turn three all the enemy troops are pretty well tied up in combat and falling fast.

As to the heirophant, yah, it falls pretty quick, and takes up so many points that you can't really support it with the remaining models. However, it is a ton of fun, and once I have lost a game or two the nasty lists will be far away in the standings and I can have fun vs the other mid folk. Also, if I get permission to use it (Silly ITC restriction) it would be a great spur to finish up the model and it's diorama base.

Sadly, the hierophant will not be allowed at the tournament, although I am open to an additional optional army to base around. Perhaps a Scythed hierodule based army? Still has a lone big man, and gives me lots more points. It's a big project in a short period of time though.
