Hey guys, can people who play or people that know of others that play tell me how they store/transport their tyranid army?
The problem I have is my mawlocs, warriors, gargoyles, and carnifex all have battle foam. I have flying 2 hive tyrants, 2 hive crones, and 2 harpies to store in battle foam. I see battle foam makes a flyer but the downside is that is only one slot with gragoyles (already taken care of). Plus I need to store 3 hive tyrants. I feel this battle foam rout will create 7 cases!!! Ha! Thanks for any input, pictures are WELCOME.
Thanks

I actually just use an empty strongbow beer box to carry my Tyranids. I put all my metal models on the bottom. Then place all my warriors/tyrants/carnfiex on top, so they overlap and keep each other still by using their mass and limbs to kinda make a net with them. Then I place all my troops choices in sandwich bags and place them ontop. Its crude, looks awful but hilariously effective. Not a single broken, and all within one reasonably sized box.

Not tyranid player but howabout magnetized bases? That way they can be next to each other as close as you can position them and they will NOT be hitting each other. Do it well and even heaviest metal tyranid won't move(you might have slight trouble getting them OUT of box if you get too strong magnets ).
My WM/hordes were like that. Thanks to magnet I could carry them around in box with some models(including heaviest metal jacks I had from Khador!) hanging upside down.

I'm working on creating magnetized trays for my nids. With the amount you usually need to bring and the variety of sizes, poses, etc., I feel like that is the most efficient way to move them around.

Tyranids are the WORST! I've never figured out how to transport them properly. Best advice I can give is learn to love bringing emergency repair glue.

I think you would love magnetized bases. Advantage in that is that while in transport _they will not move_. Well maybe if you have earthquake or something shaking it but other than that the models won't budge. Biggest danger is going to be taking them out but in transport they are safe as it can be.
Especially easy with plastic models but provided you make sure the magnets themselves don't get separated from the base even old metal hive tyrants/carnifexes won't move

I don't want the best army, just one that isn't an exercise in picking up my models by turn 3.

If I had 100 + Drukhari kits all in plastic to choose from, or 100 + Sisters kits, I think I'd be more likely to be receptive to Space Marine player's complaints about anything.

For my gargoyles I have a tray of pluck foam and I made 2 big rectangular pits. Bases go in one smaller pit, gargoyales get stacked/piled into the other pit.
This might sound like blasphemy to some, but you know what? I am not storeing a horde or spikey winged things 1 at a time in a tray. I don't have the damn room for that.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

I have 3 Tupperware boxes lined with bubble wrap. 1 thin one for my gaunts, and 2 large ones for fliers and ground mc's respectively. I'm not sure how to describe the level of finnagling required to pack and unpack everything. I somehow am able to find more room when I shouldn't be able to. Seriously its like a Tardis or something. Let me run down what all I have in these boxes.
Mind you they aren't your average pack-lunch sized boxes, but they can store about 2 loaves of bread side by side just fine.
Flyer box: 3 hive tyrants (one with outstretched arms from lwbs)
a kitbashed carnifex sized harpy
A hive crone
3 hive guard
Deathleaper and 5 lictors
3 warriors
Old one eye
9 mucoloids
Gaunt box: about 60 termagaunts
24 hormagaunts
30 spore mines
12 genestealers
20 gargoyles
Mc box: tervigon
2 sporocysts
2 Mawlocs
3 carnifex
1 haruspex
1 Malanthrope
1 Venomthrope
1 kitbashed icarus lascannon
I just got another box of warriors, a hive crone, 12 genestealers, 6 ravenors, and the red terror. You bet I'll find a place in those boxes for all of them!

The problem I had with magnetic bases was the strength of the magnets required to make me comfortable in transportation meant that when models were on the table top they'd attract and repel each other. When I try and get multiple models in combat the damned things push away from each other and worst case scenario the magnets get too close and actually snap the models together. I didn't mind magnetic bases for my WHFB forces, because you rank them up on a metal tray so they don't pull and push on each other.

The key is to carry each model individually as if it were a hot cup of coffee. It's a little difficult to pull off in multi-state trips but it's the only way to be sure.
