Hey Dakka. I have been working on a small 1K Sons list in preparation for the new book coming out (hopefully in Feb). My plan is to run my infantry exclusively in terminator armor (or bulked up artificer armor if necessary for certain units). My question is how do you run your terminators? I will have both types (cataphractii, and tartaros), plus the likely legion specific terminators once they come out. Here's my current plan:

5 Cataphractii Terminators - 248 points
• 3 Terminators with Combi-meltas (or Combi-plasmas) and Power Fists
• Terminator with Reaper Autocannon and Power Fist
• Sergeant with Combi-melta (or Combi-plasma) and Chain Fist

5 Tartaros Terminators - 270 points
• 3 Terminators with Pairs of Lightning Claws
• Terminator with Heavy Flamer and Lightning Claw
• Sergeant with Thunder Hammer, Combi-bolter, and Grenade Harness

Terminator Command Squad (5 man) - 293 points
• 2 Terminators with Combi-weapons and Power Fists
• Terminator with Combi-weapon and Power Weapon
• Terminator with Plasma Blaster and Power Weapon
• Terminator with Standard, Thunder Hammer, Combi-weapon, and Grenade Harness

Recommendations for weapons and gear? Also, what units would be good compliments for this army? I know that I will need some transports, since termies don't naturally have DS in 30k. But what else?

Thanks for looking

so, of my ~100 generic termiantors, I run them like this:

power fists on everyone, 1 chainfist per 5 termiantors, 1 heavy weapon per 5 (normally heavy flamers because Death Guard. That being said, I have 3 squads running with 2 reapers each).

that being said, I love to them ran with volkite and axes. twin LC I tend to avoid as there's enough AP: 3 sources in this game.

Also: Srgts. can't take the special weapons AFAIK.

Another major point: Once you hit "critical mass" of teminators (seems to be around 40+) Transports become a lot less manditory, and a lot more "quality of life" type upgrades.

You were correct. The sergeant cannot take the special weapon. So I have fixed that in my OP. Thanks! I've also edited the original point values, as I was off signficantly (almost 100 points in one case!). Idk how I managed to do that.

The reason I took LC on the tartaros is because my main purpose for those squads is to blend troops and object holders. The army (due to dropping a lot of points into termies) won't have many points to cover other things. Anti-tank will be very important, as will things to deal with deathstars. So being able to send these tartaros squads out to take the opponent's objectives through brute force seems appealing to me.

The cataphractii will be dealing with tanks up close and/or high armor targets their combi-meltas/plasmas. Hopefully firing off 4 S7 shots and 8 S6 AP2 shots will be able to put a dent in most targets.

That's an interesting point about critical mass. I was worried about sinking so many points into 4-6 terminator squads and then having to give expensive transports to them. But I could just invest more points into the squads to get to the point where I simply have too many 2+, 5++ bodies to shoot off the table. ..
What do you pair with your 40+ terminators to help the army be effective?

I've had the same question about kitting terminators, I was also curious as to which legions best make use of a complete Terminator army.

I heard DG actually used massed Terminators in the fluff, and theirs seem really good, but from what I've read you're stuck with PotL RoW to pull this off.

Any tips on this for DG or other legions that would be better suited to an all TDA army?

Was also thinking Erasmus Golg for IW but I'm already doing a big IW army and was thinking a full TDA army would be a good chance to try another legion out.

here's how you have fun with DG and terminator spam:
Our Deathshroud are: Elites, Body guards, AND their own HQ slot
Grave Warden are Heavy support, and amazingly strong for how dirt cheap they are.

Points-less super termiantor spam list

HQ
Terminator Praetor w/ 10 Deathshroud
Mortarion w/ 10 Deathshroud (Primarch's chosen ROW or PotL)
10 Deathshroud

TROOP
6x 10 Legion Terminator Squads

ELITE
4x 10 Deathshroud

HEAVY SUPPORT
3x 10 Grave Warden.

AFAIK, we are the only legion that can pop out ~163 Terminators in a single list

I have 2 ways I tend to run this list: in 40k, it's 35-40 cataphractii termiantors + a small CAD. In 30k: I generally run as many termiators as I can fit (~40-60), which is normally enough to be an actual threat When I want support, going for some simple, long ranged AT is generally all you'd need to help cover your advance. Quad mortars, artillery, or other Heavy support squads all tend to be nice

I have a unit of Terminators I run sometimes in my EC army. I just keep them fairly cheap. 10-man squad, 2 plasma blasters, grenade harness, and arm them all with power axes.

I play Sons of Horus and have 1 unit of 10 Justaerin and 2 units of 5 terminators.

10 man Justaerin Squad: This unit is an all rounder
- 3 Chainfists
- 4x Pair of Lightning Claws
- 3x Single Lightning Claw
- 2x Multi-Meltas
- 4x Combi-Plasmas
- Grenade Harness

5 man Cataphractii Terminator Squad: This unit is for taking out Armour
- 5x Chainfists
- 5x Combi-Meltas

5 man Cataphractii Terminator Squad: This unit is for taking out Infantry
- 5x Lightning Claws
- 4x Volkite Chargers
- 1x Heavy Flamer
- Grenade Harness

I like to avoid unwieldy weapons for my SofH because then I don't benefit from Merciless Fighters special rule. But I also understand the need for Chainfists.

My Justerains are in Catraphractii Terminator armor and can't run. So...

My Legion is Sons of Horus, and it just really depends on what I want them to do. The configuration changes just about every game depending on the rest of my army. /shrug
