Good morning!

Sooooo, I broke down and finally got a second army and ordered just an absolute ton of the deathwatch overkill boxes to create a huge genestealer cult army. 8 boxes are currently on their way to me and I'm trying to figure out how it is I'll paint almost 300 infantry models.

I'm no stranger to painting in bulk, my Ork army was definitely a learning experience for that! But, these models are seem nowhere near as simplistic and "clean" (for lack of a better word) as my Ork boyz etc..

I'm hoping for advice on how to get these to a decent tabletop standard rapidly and in a way that lets me go back and slowly add details and layers bit by bit. the general theme is light purple skin and yellow clothes.

I was thinking of priming white and using primarily Casandora Yellow and Druchii Violet shades on skin/clothes, then maybe nuln oil or agrax on the armor bits? or how about drakenhof nightshade over the armor for a blue/yellow/purple theme.

any advice, input or cautionary tales are welcome! And thanks in advance!

Fluff-wise, have them represent an ex-imperial army which has totally fallen to the Cult - that gives you the excuse for their clothing to all be the same as it's simply their old uniforms (far more believable than for individualistic orks ). The obvious exceptions would be banners and insignia added post-cult to proudly proclaim their new allegiance.

With 8 sets, you'll obviously have a lot of repeat figures, so look at easy ways to customize them - head/arm/weapon swaps, extra equipment etc. Paint can help too, with stains and general dirt (laundry is not a priority for the GSC).

Yellow and purple can be horrible colors to get good solid coverage with, although that will depend on the specific paint used, so be sure to do a few test figures before finalizing on those colors.

Light purple skin can be quickly and nicely achieved with a base of Dheneb stone/Rakarth flesh/another pink-tinged neutral washed over with Leviathan purple (or the modern equivalent).
