On several fora it seems everyone accepts the attacker decides wether he attacks the cannon (never) or the crew (always). But I was playing against an empire player and he insisted on picking the model (cannon) himself saying they are a single unit. I couldn't find the rules to agrue with him (the rules say the defender gets to distribute over the unit, that is pretty clear).
So I need to find the rule everyone assumes is there where I can make it clear warmachines and crew are different warscrolls (the empire cannon is put on a single page with their keywords below both stat lines).
