The forgeworld Cerastus Knights look absolutely gorgeous. But are they any good on the tabletop, I've been looking at their downloadable rules, and in some cases they don't look a great deal better than their go counterparts. The Castigator for example only has a strength 10 sword, rather than the mighty D that the chainsword and fist variants get. The heavy flames guy is only strength 7...although admittedly it's flamestorm.

The Atropos is probably looking like the most powerful as regards to weapons, but also is the ugliest imo. What are other people's thoughts.

The s10 sword also has deflagrate and a special attack where it hits all models in btb contact instead of making attacks as normal. Not to mention one has anot ionic flare shield, and one has an inbuilt invul save even in CC, and strikes at +1I when it charges.

Most are more specialized than the regular Knights, but none are bad Imo.

Those appoc flamer templates are huge. They act nothing like a normal flamer especially when you are moving at super heavy walker speed.

Pretty much this. The Cerastus do better against specific types of enemies; for example the Lancer is really meant for taking out enemy Knights or gargantuan creatures, the Castigator is about volume of fire, Acheron anti-MEQ... etc

Wow!

I've never actually seen them side by side like that!

Having had a much better read of the rules and reading what you guys are saying I'm starting to see that they really do have a lot to offer individually. And they are so so beautiful.

With regards the lancer, isn't the problem with getting into close combat with other supervheavies, that once you take them down, they tend to take you with them? It's pretty kamikase. I've only played one or two games with knights involved, and they always seem to blow each other up once they start hitting each other in the face.

So tempted to start a household now *drools*

With the right formation you can give the lancer a 4++, and both probably only exploded because they were striking at the same I, which the lancer has a big advantage on with the swiftstrike on the lance it has. (and a 5++ in CC base)

As I recall the lancer charged in killed the other knight, and it exploded, which in turn caused the lancer to explode. I could be wrong though. I don't play with super heavies of d weapons very often so I'm not very familiar with the rules.

The only real problem with the Cerastus knights is that most of them only have one gun. So what you shoot is what you charge.

Och that really hurts. You do not want to flame and assault the same thing most of the time

Most of them will shoot what they charge, but iirc a few of them do have extra guns. (Acheron, and Atrapos have more than one gun). On the other hand, they shoot what they want to charge as their gun is designed to harm that

Pretty sure that one has a Heavy Bolter in its sword.

It's hard to go wrong with your standard paladin. You can get them for like 80 bucks too.

That's the Acheron, with twin-linked heavy bolters right above it's Chain Fist.

Acheron looks at Eldar Jetbikes and has himself a lovely barbecue. That Hellstorm template allows for many jetbikes to be fried per turn. You might be playing chicken against a Wraithknight if it's in their army to get to the bikes, but you'll cook them when you get to them for sure.

I use a cerastus castigator as a warden. Nobody has had a problem with it yet.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
