Pulsating Possessed Space Marine of Slaanesh

Hello everybody and welcome to my project log. I took these images to motivate myself to finish my projects and for documentation to see my improvement over time.
My first project is the Lost Patrol Box Set. I picked this project because it was not too overwhelming. I painted it over 2-3 weeks mostly at weekends.
I will try to describe my thoughts with each image. Some pics are a bit small. Click on it and zoom in if you want to see more detail.

Ah, fresh box! lets open it.

Nice stuff, interesting.

Figures! Scouts and genestealers.

Glue up and ready to go.

Starting to assemble. Here comes my first mistake, i almost did not clean any mold lines. I feel this affected my painting later on. Lesson learned.

Assembly continues.

But i did make the barrel!

The brave scouts.

They got lost in a snowstorm. Well actually. I tried to undercoat them with white in -0C weather. Maybe that is why they became so splotchy?

Anyway, nothing to lose now. Time to start basecoating! First layer looks uneven.

Second layer looks a bit better!

Along way to go...

Basecoat, basecoat, basecoat.

Got bored of basecoating so tried some shadowing on the chest.

Back to basecoating.

The boring part is almost done!

Starting to shade the pants.

Cleaning it up a little!

Starting to shadow the grey areas.

Got bored again and started to paint the face, man this looked bad!

How do i make a face look good? I am not sure. I read somewhere that the key to miniature painting is contrast. Lets try it.

A bit better, but still really bad. I start over from a dark shade.

A lot more contrast now. I think it looked a bit better!

Eyes are important too!

The finished face.

What we got so far.

More shading.

Red parts.

Whole squad shaded and faces re-basecoated.

More in next post!

Started highlighting the red. Here i did not listen to myself as you can see! I should have had a much more lighter highlight for more contrast! Can barely see it!

But the gun, wow that is a bright highligth!

The squad so far.

Starting to highlight the grey.

The rest of the squad.

The leader.

The squad with completed faces.

Another picture. But what is missing? The hair!

Here we go.

Just a simple highlight.

The heavy guy too.

The completed squad.

What?! Aliens done already?! Yes i cheated and painted these on the side without telling you.

In action shot.

Rewarding myself for being half way with popping out the card board parts. Nice.

The stack.

More assembly without cleaning lines.

Finished.

Freshly basecoated.

Shadowing/veins.

And highlighting.

Straight forward, but boring.

Not much left.

Basecoating.

And the other stuff.

And finished!

What i learned from the project:
- I dont like to mass produce. The Genestealers got really boring after a while. I think i prefer on model at the time to a finished state even if it takes longer time.
- Painting with the easy 1 highlight and 1 shade style like this i must really pick a brighter highlight or it is hard to notice it on the playing field.

Going forward:
- This was my first painting in a long time. I only have been able to paint at tabletop standard. In the future i want to get better. So i am going to start documenting my process trying new techniques on single miniatures. Hopefully to get some feedback on what i am doing wrong from the community.
- I am not sure if i will do it in video or picture format. I would prefer video but i am not sure if i am good enough with speaking English. I will give it a try i think!

Thanks ShieldBrother,
I bought the Kill Team boxed set. With those space marine miniatures in the box i want to learn how to become a better painter.
I want to start putting more effort on a single miniature. I am first going to try and learn how to paint the clean way as the space marines that you can find in the games workshop store homepage.
I want to show a big picture of my miniature but still look detailed and clean. This is my first goal to get better

Good solid paint job and an amusing read as well! Batch painting is indeed boring but the results pay off!

Looks great. Have you played the game much? It's really fun but super hard. I still haven't managed to get the scouts out, been close a few times though.

Did you see the WD with rules for using termies in the jungle?

Thanks. Yes i played a few times. I did not get very far. 10 tiles left or something i think hehe.
I like that it is hard. It makes me want to try again with new strategy.

Yes i have that WD issue. Painting some Blood Angels Terminator might be a good project. I will keep that in mind!

Hello everybody,
In my quest to become a better painter i started with the Kill Team boxed set.
I will try to paint each one with new techniques.

This first marine i tried to paint smoothly. I find it hard to paint yellow smooth so it became thick. I am starting to think about that problem..
Also i always notice how the highlights does not show as strong in picture compared to under the painting lamp. So i think in the next miniature i will push things a lot further.
