Blood angel CAD with Dante as warlord. Does Dantes reroll reserve warlord trait work if I, say, attach Dante to the custodes and put them in deepstrike reserve? I know you lose formation bonuses like attaching a IC to a skyhammer. But this is not a formation bonus.

It would work for every unit of Dante's CAD but Dante's. The Draft FAQ really wouldn't change this.
It affects units in his Detachment. While joined to another unit, Dante isn't operating as his own unit, but as a member of another unit, so he doesn't qualify.
The only people who would have a problem with it are the ones who insist that an IC is still a fully recognized and function unit while being joined to another unit, which often comes with either pointless problems or a certain level of hypocrisy.

I think Dante needs to be on the board for this ability to work, so sticking him in reserve might not work. I could be wrong on this.
I have no idea if it would apply if you joined ANOTHER IC with a Jump Pack from that detachment to the Custodes though, as now that unit technically has a jump unit in it now and has a member from Dante's detachment. Someone else can weigh in on that possibility.

Independent characters count as part of the unit they are joined to, no? So Custodes wouldn't benefit.

Most of the Warlord abilities that affect his army/detachment reserve rolls seems to work even when they are on reserves. The Draft FAQ points at it in some circunstances (Eldar Autarch as example)
