Subject: Which armies are horde armies? Looking to start an army

I'm really interested in getting into AOS with a horde army.
Unfortunately I'm not very familiar with the armies - I'm looking for the exact opposite of Space Marines. Mostly because coming from 40k elite 3+ save models are pretty much everyone and very few people actually play horde non-elite armies. Are the Stormcasts a good starting choice?
I also want a competitive choice because in 40k the few horde armies are god-awful as if GW hates them. Orks cannot win ever, IG is severely underpowered in 7th edition... Swarm tyranid is not competitive. As if GW only made them for Space Marines to curb-stomp. face-palm*
Please give me some recommendations.

Honestly, most factions are somewhat horde based in sigmar, all kinds of units get bonuses for being 20-30-40 models. The best ones right now, power-wise are death(Skeleton, zombies, ghouls) bonesplittaz and I think I've heard people talk about moonclan grots.

If you are coming from 40k, you might be shocked that orks are rather competitive in AoS. Ironjawz are elite, so the horde choice would be Bonesplitterz. Just bring a kunnin rukk. Grots are also hordes with artillery.
Death allegiance is pretty much all undying hordes. Hordes of ghouls, skeletons, zombies or chariots maybe.
Chaos has khorne hordes of reavers or bloodletters, but they are rather hard to use conpared to other armies. Skaven are the traditional horde army, but their cheese build isnt. Others are all playable as hordes by bringing the usual daemon core or marauders.
Order has more or less everyone not stormcast playable as horde.

A Skink-based Seraphon list would also be a solid choice for a horde army. A couple of their Battalions are considered fairly competitive, too.

Yep, Bonesplitterz with Kunnin Ruk, FEC with Ghoul Patrol or Moonclan Grot seem to be best horde armies for the moment. Bear in my if you go for Kunnin Ruk it is incredibly boring to play with and against due to the hundreds of dice rolls required each turn.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-) |

Bloodletters seem to be pretty good, causing mortal wounds on rolls of 6's to hit. And Khorne Bloodreavers are okay if you spam them along with Blood Warriors. You need some heroes to make them competitive though and requires some sinergy

What about a horde Skaven army? Are they somewhat competition? Spamming tons of clan rats.

From what I've seen they can be pretty good, especially if they're backed up by their guns

For the skaven horde, I recommend looking at the Verminus Clawpack battalion as a guide for army building. Plus a few additional ranged support. Stormvermin get a buff when they outnumber the enemy, and the normal clanrats get a buff when there's a lot of them. The battalion makes the warlord a lot better so watch out for him getting sniped.
I think the skaven clan pestilence is also a pretty good horde army, backed up by their plague claw catapults, but I'm not sure as I haven't played them
Take a look at their rules and see if you can work out how they play and if they suit you.

I play a primarily Verminus horde style list. I run big bricks of 40 clan rats and love them. The trick is to manage battle shock. You do this through crowns of command and chieftains with standards. They make great tarpits for your hammer units to finish off.
