First, let me apologize if i didnt find tutorial. There are so many on wide range of technical spectrum.I just feel so overwhelmed.
Thanks to this site i find local shop in my country and decided to start with Space Marine Tactical Squad and Black Templar conversion kit.I also decided to start with army painter tool kit, and some basic army painter brushes.
Now i just cant decide on paints.I realy like the black and white color theme. No red, maybe just for purity seals. Also little of silver or metalic steel on chains or trims, dark golden for heroic character (terminators, champion...).I realy like models that looks battle worned.Scraches, cracks, scars. No Emperors children pompous brightness. But i doubt i could do it from start.
Ive seen and read a lot.I just need advice on set of paints for total beginner.
Edit :Also i should add that i preffer Citadel paint. It is easier to find tutorials with citadel painters.

Army painter make good metalics.
But the citidel base gold is excellent.
Gw wise. The off white bone colours can be very nice on robes etc.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all. |

More people may use Citadel paints, but all the major paint brands are pretty much compatible. For example, if a guy says "Use Zandri Dust for the robes" google "Zandri Dust equivalent" for the same color from a different brand.

If you have good brush control, I would prime white, or even light grey as otherwise you will find the white bits a struggle.
If you have to prime black, you will want a a grey color, then offwhite, then white to highlight, at the minimum.
You also want a dark grey to line highlight the black.
A couple reds will be nice for seals and some detail bits, along with a brighter red to line highlight.
I am currently painting Black Templar right now, and I can go look at what paints I am using and then using the conversion chart you can get another brand. Also, GW has a video on their youtube channel showing how to paint BT.

Yea, ive seen that 4minutes long video.Didnt get mutch from it.
I want to use Valejjo paints with wet palette.I already ordered black citadel spray primer. Will i realy have problem with white parts? Also i dont like red on BT, beside Purity seals.I want to use dark gold and silver for chains
The biggest issue i have right now is that i have seen numerous painting (even though not in my color scheme) ,but no tutorial about why i paint this paint over this paint.I would rather like the learn core concept so i understand, and can pick up my own paints.

When picking paints, I more pick a few of the similar shades for a base up to an extreme highlight, so you get more depth.
The video is nice because it tells you want paints they used for the paintjob, so you can find similar for valejjo. Biggest difference will be price and bottle, and valejo has more options for colors (having multiple lines). White is difficult to paint over black while maintaining a good look and not being too thick

To get a good coverage of white over a black undercoat, you need to blend upward from another colour. If you want a "warm" white, start with brown, while you'd start would blue if you want a "cool" white.
