Hey guys,

A few years ago I bought the Assault on Black Reach box for me and my brother. I kinda had to put the hobby on hold due to work, but now I'm looking to get started once more.

I noticed there was a Battle for Vedros box and an associated painting set. Do you think these two would be a good buy? I'm in desperate need of paints and the set also includes the armies we got from
the Assault on Black Reach box. I know it's the same models but I'm fine with that. Will this be an effective way of increasing our army sizes while also getting some basic paints?

Or do you think I'm better off buying the Battle for Vedros box along with the Citadel Base Paint Set?

Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Edit:
Just noticed that the Battle for Vedros is only available in NA... Any other suggestions on where to start and which paint set to buy?

Which army you're interested in expanding, the marines, the orc or both?

Furthermore, are you planning to run the marines as standard marines or one of the variants (Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Space Wolves.)

In any case, there are these four paint sets available:

Depending on the colours you need, you might want to get one of them. (The Space Marine paint set comes with three marines than can join your army.)

Thanks!

I'm interested in the marines and my brother will go for orcs. That's why the Battle for Vedros caught my attention, since it would let us both expand our forces. But perhaps there are better ways of doing that

I fancy the aesthetics of the Dark Angels alot! Do you think this is a beginner friendly army? (If there even is such a thing?)
Are there any specific chapters you would recommend for a newbie like me?

All Space Marine armies are pretty beginner friendly. With Dark Angels I'd recommend investing on bikes, that's where their strength lies. You can probably find DA from the Dark Vengeance box from Ebay pretty cheap. Or of course if you have a friend who would be interested in Chaos then just split the box.

I really can't comment on the Orks, I know next to nothing about them.

Welcome to dakka! And back to the hobby!

All marine armies are pretty straightforward, Dark Angles are definitely very good at bikes and the fast stuff.

I also do not know anything about Orks, but I hear that boyz, bikes, and Mega Armoured Nobz are good, but take what I say with a grain of salt.

Dark Angels are pretty good, there are a lot of cool tricks they can pull, and a lot of cool things they can do with their bikes.

The Dark Angel models are all around Ebay for very cheap, so that will definitely help you expand your army very quickly.

Hope that helps a little bit!
