So in a discussion about assault from deepstrike, and the opinions on it are very strong on both sides. The rule is when a unit arrives from deepstrike, the unit may rule 1 die, and move like a consolidation rule. If the unit can make contact with an enemy unit, the unit rolls a d3 for every model in base to base contact with the enemy unit, and gets that many attacks against the enemy unit. The enemy unit is not locked in combat, and can move and shoot freely the following turn. The unit arriving from deepstrike cannot sweeping advance or issue challenges. With this rule in the rulebook, units arriving from deepstrike must also fire snapshots the turn they arrive. I also thought about adding this rule to units that are consolidating from a combat they won. Thoughts? Would this be too OP? Trying to find away to make assault from deepstrike viable without being too strong

It'd be something to test, for sure. One thing you DEFINITELY want to add is "d3 attacks, up to their normal maximum". Otherwise, a lucky roll gives my Tac Marines 3 attacks rather than 1 for... Some reason?

Agreed, this should be part of the rule

This specific implementation is less 'OP' and more 'needlessly convoluted'. You're taking one sentence out of the rulebook and replacing it with what is functionally a new and unusual CC phase, and the end result is just going to be confusing.

My point in the long argument over in General Discussion is that if you want to delete "units cannot assault in the same turn they deploy by Deep Strike" it's got to come with a much-needed rethink of Deep Strike in particular, reserves in general, and its implementation across almost every Codex, not that it's inherently wrong/broken/needs to be neutered to function.

It is too late right now to come up with a coherent explanation of what a Reserves/Deep Strike ruleset in which charging from Deep Strike would make sense would look like, I'll explain further in the morning.

Another thing to add-the unit getting attacked can fight back, following normal initiative order. That way, if you get a Powerfist or Eviscerator in CC, they've got the usual chance of wiping them out before they get to smack them silly.
