Hi everyone!

I am new to Warhammer 40K (former Warhammer player) and I have always been interested in the Imperial Guard army, so I decided to jump in the tank and start an army!

Here it is, my target is 1000 points but I will expend it further down the track:

HQ

Tank Commander in Vanquisher with lascannon
Leman Russ Exterminator
Leman Russ Exterminator

Platoon Command Squad, 1 vox, 1 autocannon

3x Infantry Squads Combined, 1 vox

1x veteran squad with 2 plasma guns in chimera

1x veteran squad with 1 plasma gunand 1 Flamer in chimera

Wyvern 65 points

it's exactly 1000 points

The big squad can has two different roles: taking objective and keeping them or protecting the wyvern with the platoon giving powerful order.

The Tank squadron and the mechanised veteran squads can stay in a defensive position at the beginning with the big squad, just firing at distance but they also are able to move onto the offensive later on in the game...

At least that's how i see it, i guess we wait and see what happens in real game haha!

The only experience I had was vs the dark eldars which completely destroyed the guard in a small 500 points game, the guy had 2 squadrons of jetbikes, a raider and a venom with infantry inside. My list had 2 veterans units with lord commissar, a LRBT and a Basilisk. do you think this list would be more effective against them? I am particularly annoyed by their faculty to JINK when shot at....how can an AM army go around that?

Noob & JNA have given you some great advice. In addition, the IG company command squad is a great asset because it can issue an "ignore cover" order to any dismounted squad nearby. Consider dropping 1 Exterminator and adding a CCS with lascannon to your list. Use the remaining points to add a commissar and 3 autocannons to your platoon.

Now you have a 31-trooper blob that is effectively fearless and ignoring cover on an orders roll of 9 or less on 2d6. Also, if you add a vox to the blob and a vox to the CCS, then you will almost always succeed on your orders checks to the blob.

When building your LRBT's and other vehicles Remember to always Magnatize the turret weapons, Sponsons, and hull mounts.
Now for a minor suggestion ..
Veteran Squads ..eventually ...Two plasma and one heavy flamer each ..for now one Plasma and one heavy flamer each ..
If you get a CCS then drop the Vox's ..and carry Voltovs cane on the Commander
