Subject: Solar Auxilia Models as Rise of Legends Doge's Elite 40K Guardsmen.....

So I don't know if anyone on here remembers Rise of Legends but I took a trip down memory lane this holiday and realized that the solar auxilia models would make excellent Vinci Musketeers/ Doge's Elite Guard(heck the latter wore gas-masks to boot). Add in that The Ogryns or sentinals can easily be converted into clockwork men or Doge Walkers and I think I have a nifty theme. Of course I'm posting because I don't want the galaxy to implode if my infantry are solar auxilia models masquerading as guardsmen in flak plated, clockwork space suits. I mean with all the bellows gears and chains the models are begging for a clockwork background guard regiment.... Am I right?

Love RoL! Really cool game, and I love the whole Vinci Clockwork-Punk theme.
I also think it would look really damn cool in a 40k setting I don't think anyone would get snotty using Solar Auxilia as Tempestus Scions as they're both similarly armed and armoured. Throw in some Ad Mech bits and you've got a really cool army
You could actually make an army using Militarum Tempestus with an allied Ad Mech force. Use Solar Auxilia as the base units, but swap out the Lasguns for those kickass archaeotech flintlocks Skitarii have.
Plus, Sydonian Dragoons rules fit perfectly with big ol' clockwork men

The scions do look cool but their options are so limited, I figured that I could pass them off as guardsmen with super retro flak armor. Plus I figured I'd use the Vinci as the overall imperial faction but tack in like alin magicians/psykers (Vinci prisoners of war or mercenaries hired by a particular Vinci IG Regimental commander before shipping out). In my mind the fluff kinda goes that the Vinci are the faction on aio that back the Imperium, regularly paying tithes, recruiting guard units, etc. while dealing with their fallen brethren the Alin who may or may not have an affiliation with chaos/tzneetch and the cuotl who are actually xenos worshipers (trying to decide which xenos... necron or eldar). Admech was a definite ally, lol, I'm still kinda muddling through the fluff but I think it will be good.I just gotta explain why they're in Clockwork powered EVA suits. I feel like its gonna have something to do with their historical fight against the alin and cuotl, ie either chemical weapons are a prevalent weapon the Doge's men (hey the Doge has that poisonous cloud power and Pulitore was a Vinci hero dedicated entirely to poisons and chemical weapons) or the magic/ cuotl technology (raw chaos from alin "magics"/ radiation bleed from cuotl weapons) is highly lethal to unaugmented/aligned humans. Automatically Appended Next Post: Just read part of the skitarii codex and it may actually be a perfect stand in for a vinci guard army.......

Ah so you're putting the actual RoL world into the 40k universe? Neat
I'd definitely say that the Alin would be closer to Tzeentch, and the Cuotly have a definite Necron vibe to them

I'd been wondering what the Automated Infantry from Konflikt '47 reminded me of. If they were bigger they'd make marvelous Clockwork Men.
Karamazov from the Inquisition book seems the natural place to go for rules for one of the Vinci platform-walker characters since he basically is one. The Alin might work as daemons more broadly, a lot of their stuff does have a Tzeentchian feel to it but Desert Walkers are closer to Daemonettes or Bloodletters and the Scorpions/Spiders need a melee-MC/Chariot approach that may make more sense as Khorne. The Cuotl certainly have a Necron feel to their tech, I suppose it wouldn't be too far-fetched to have 'enhanced' or otherwise shielded the mortal minions so they could count as Warriors.
Trying to adapt it over lorewise takes almost no effort; Ao is a planet at the outer edge of human expansion that the Imperium never really got to. Human settlement across the planet occurs in three major concentrations corresponding to the factions; normal folks with mostly the tech they landed with (Vinci) in one, a subtly Chaos-worshipping society in the desert (Alin) in the next, and the jungle folks ruled by the survivors of a crashed Necron tombship (Cuotl) in the last.
The plot of the game may not work unaltered as part of the history of the planet, simply because if the Imperium were to reestablish contact and find Giacomo's unified empire they'd probably call it a lost cause and glass the place. There are a lot of directions you could theoretically go with the Cuotl attempt to call home as a plot mover, but you'd want to preserve a status quo that allows all three factions to exist. I'm imagining the Imperium has made contact with the Vinci and is attempting to reclaim the world, they've established bases within the Alin deserts but they can't really find or pin down their forces, and they've bogged down trying to push into the Cuotl jungles.
Now I kind of want to put my homebrew-content hat on and see what I can make for the RoL armies. The blast Vector Strike attack from the Rukh, MC-mounted heroes, all the design space the flyers imply...
