Greetings, heading into 2017, Osprey has not yet released what they plan to share with us for the New Year. We know they will release Pikeman's Lament in January but after that it is unclear. So far, the rules have covered a lot of ground in the genre sense, they have everything from Ancients Fantasy skirmish to Pirates to Samurai to Modern Black-ops to Sci-Fi skirmish. There games cover skirmish to massed battle games. The only rule is they must be 64 pages!
So, with that being said what would you want to see next?
Here are my thoughts:
1. A gladiator game. I love gladiator games.
2. A Wild West game of some type
3. WWI Trench Raid game
4. Vietnam Platoon based game
5. Dark Ages Fantasy Skirmish
6. Diodachi/Successor Ancient Battles (It would go good with Posieden's Warriors)
7. Dragon Rampant/Dux Bellorum Mash-up
8. Gangster Skirmish game
What are your thoughts and ideas?

A Rifts style mash up with Roman Legions fighting Confederates fighting the Soviets fighting cavemen.
Basically an omni historical game with some mechanism to correct for technology differences.
Or not.
Maybe write the rules so it's 30 Medieval footmen vs 1 guy with an M-16.

Wouldn't releasing this style of game step on the toes of Blood Eagle which is written by the authors of several of Osprey's other games/supplements - some quite popular like IHMN. Would that cause friction?

No idea, but my reading of Blood Eagle is that it "IS" IHMN with different warbands. I wonder if Osprey didn't pick it up because it was over the 64 page limit?

I just can't wait for Rogue Stars. Skirmish gaming is where it's at, and I need a good 'use any models" sci-fi game.

I'm most surprised that they haven't published:
-A Squad based WW2 game
-A 20th century naval wargame.
To tick off some the boxes of semi-popular wargame genres that they have not yet put out rules for, I think they would also do well to publish:
-A Wierd World War II game on the platoon or smaller scope.
-A starship combat system
-A 6-10mm Mech Combat system
-A post- apoc skirmish game
As for myself, I'd like to see a 28mm post apoc skirmish game with vehicles and foot troops. I've tried wel over a half dozen different games and even found some pretty good ones, but nothign that's quite perfectly scratched the itch yet. TiNaT was great, but didn't handle vehicles well. Nuclear Rennaisance came closest, but it is a bit rough. Wastelands played pretty well but was a bit sparse, and required housefuling, etc, etc...

I'd not heard of Blood Eagle. Is it by Craig Cartmel and based on the IHMN system? Sounds like somethign worth picking up, though I've already got my fantasy wargaming pretty well covered with SBH, Dragon Rampant and Kings of War.

I'd highly recommend checking out In The Emperor's Name in the meantime. It's posed as a 40k game, but it's actually a great generic "Use any models" sci-fi game engine with a full unit creation mechanic. Rogue Stars looks more detailed but IMHN is also made for slightly larger warbands.

Essentially, some of those key genres they are supporting but with slightly larger book releases. Even looking at my own list, they do cover Vietnam skirmish with Force-on-Force. i imagine that may hamper/influence some of their design decisions.
Wouldn't a Bronze Age/Homeric skirmish game be sort of fun? I suppose you could use Broken Legions or Of Gods and Mortals could fit the bill with some tweaking?
How about 15mm Chariot wars? I have heard people use Lion Rampant for this, so it would be a simple mod for them.
Franco-Prussian war in the Honours of War mold?
Regarding Blood Eagle I don't recall the exact author, but it is by the Ministry of Gentlemanly Warfare who did work with Osprey on IHMN. I am pretty sure it is the same crew since the rules are nearly identical, sometimes word-for-word.

Interesting thought about the steampunk Naval warfare. I wonder if their age of sail rules could be ported inthat direction.
It's be nice if they brought forth some sort of rules-lite microarmor rules. That sort of thing could be tweaked for many different eras much like the Blitzkrieg-, Cold War- and Future War Commander games. Something with a complexity between Future War Commander and Panzer 8 would be just about perfect.

I mis-wrote, I was thinking something like one squad per side. Bolt Action and Konflict-47 are Platoon+ levels games. Also, while they're produced by Osprey, they're deisgned and published by Warlord Games andt are more formally Warlord Games Products and not part of the Osprey Wargaming series. Still, I can see how they might steer clear of 28mm ww2 altogether so as not to step on Warlord Games toes. I assume the same situation with Force and Force and Tomorrow's War and not wanting to step on Ambush Alley's territory. A shame really, since there's a real niche they could fill with rules-lite wargames for WW2, Vietnam and Sci-Fi combat. I've pretty much given up on Tomorrow's War. The art and pics and layout is beautiful and told there's a good game in there, but it's 200+ pages of some of the worst-written and most poorly-organized wargames rules I've ever owned and that's saying something .
Good point about Horizon Wars. I had forgotten about that.
I looked up Blood Eagle. It is indeed by Craig Cartmell and another gentleman. Craig is the author of In Her Magesty's Name, In the Emperor's Name and FUBAR.

I did not know he did FUBAR as well.
It is funny you mention Micro-armor as I was just thinking about that this morning. I want a quick and easy game to run 6-Days War, India v. Pakistan, and Fulda Gap games.
I am not a fan of Cold War Commander or GHQ's Modern Microarmor's rules. I have not had a chance to try out Fistful of TOWs though.

Give Panzer 8 a try. It's super abstract, but it's a fun way to toss a bunch of tanks and infantry on the table and have a battle. Also free.

20th century naval warfare is a very broad period indeed, ranging from pre-dreadnaughts fighting at a range of a couple of miles to the Battle of Jutland, the rise of the aircraft carrier, nuclear submarines and weapons, guided missiles, satellite reconnaissance, the GIUK gap sonar line, finishing shortly before stealth technology began to be applied to ships.
I would like to see a good Vietnam large scale skirmish game.

Actually, given the 64 page limit, that'd work for Stargrunt and Dirtside II as well.... they've been out of print for a while.
Fantasy Skirmish they already have with Frostgrave. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and a Zombie game. Not just because virtually everyone else has published a zombie game, but because it'd be pretty straightforward to base it on The Men Who Would Be Kings.

FoF does 'nam, but personally, I'd like:
Post-war Chulhu-ish skirmish - Delta Green, the Laundry Files, etc
Modern urban skirmish - Heat, The Raid, etc. Add zombies, martial artists in black trench coats or alien hunters if you like. I've got a box full of Foundry's Street Violence minis waiting for an outing.
A generic fantasy skirmish - the equivalent of Rogue Stars (or Confrontation, Warhammer Skirmish, etc) rather than Frostgrave.
I don't think they've done a Wild West game, either, have they?
A Bronze Age skirmish would be fun - since Crocodile Games took my Kickstarter money four years ago, I've had plenty of Wargods minis otherwisevunused.

I was thinking a Chaos in Carpathia/Empire of the Dead/Frostgrave/Necromunda type game could be fun featuring vampire warbands in modern/near-future settings. Basically, Vampire: the masquerade in TT form, but not!
Instead of being led by a wizrd, your warband would be led by a Vamp from a clan and his main thrall. You could then populate with henchmen, mystic powers, clan powers, etc. Only Vamps and Thralls could level up. Henchmen would be archetypes.
Considering what is all ready out-there and published to crib from, this game could be really quick and easy to make.
