Subject: Baharoth: Infinite hits

In Baharoth's description (Phoenix Lord) it states that everytime he makes a hit in close combat he gets a further hit until he misses (not the exact wording). So my question is against stationary vehicles would he get infinite hits. If this is the case all you would need to do is contact rear armor on say a Leman Russ and tell your opponent that his tank is destroyed.(If its stationary of course)

GW cleared it up to affect only targets with a WS. Of course, this was a Pete Haines suggestion and not in the Eldar FAQ, so by RAW you're right, but you'd have to actually roll for each hit, at which point you would be a cheater in my book because you are breaking the most important rule in the game. Also, by RAW, you would keep checking to see if Baharoth continues to successfully hit or not, so would never get to the actual damage tables until time ran out on the game. - Oaka

I believe the text is something along the lines of, "For every successful roll to hit," so because you never roll any dice, you'll never get any bonus attacks. Alas: no codex at work. But I'm 95%+ sure that's the wording.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias |

No, it says "hit he inflicts". It's an infinite number, and it says nothing about actually rolling to hit. I don't think you could successfully argue that you sit there rolling to hit until time runs out, as you never need to roll to hit in the first place.

What I meant was that you have to sit there and actually roll for glancing or penetrating and to see the result. You can't just get into base to base combat, say that the vehicle has been destroyed and move on. It might take a wound off of Baharoth with it.
Plus, this is kind of a jerk thing to do, so I find it entirely reasonable to say that you have to figure out every hit before you can move onto the damage rolls. Since there are an infinite number of hits, then you can never follow the sequence in the rulebook as the next section begins with "For every hit inflicted, roll to penetrate." With infinite hits, you'd need a lot of dice for damage rolls, and you have to bring your own materials.

Edit: On second thought, if you have to apply all the damage rolls to the vehicle, that would mean there would be an infinite number of penetrating 6's, and Baharoth would take an infinite number of wounds. The trick is to make sure you assault a vehicle that you can only glance (I don't know Baharoth's strength).

Well, since Baharoth is str 4 and the lowest armor value is 10 then the best he can do is get a 10... So that is a glancing hit, best case. One in six glancing hits kill any vehicle.
Rolling dice is a formality in this case. Any one with a real grasp of the rules and who isn't such a wimp as to consider this one impossibly rare scenario overpowered will just submit (according to the rules) and let their tank be killed by a 165 pt. special character. They will then kill him with something else.
To be perfectly honest if you let someone with this sort of rule stroll up behind an immobile vehicle you deserve to lose the vehicle.

Actually the "best" he can do against an open top vehicle would be explodes, since open top vehicles always count glancing as penetrating.

Open Topped Vehicles add 1 to the damage result.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k. Rule #1 - BBAP
