Greetings fellow 40k players, I come bearing a formation list that I plan on using in a 500 point game in the future. The stipulation for the game is one CAD or one formation allowed, no flyers, no flying monstrous creatures, no super heavy vehicles, no walkers, no gargantuan creatures. My opponents tend to be Tau, Ultra Marines, Orcs, Necrons, Salamanders, more Tau, more Ultra Marines, and tyranid. The game modes tend to deviate between objective based games and to kill everything.

This is the list I plan on using:

HQ
Wolf Lord- 165 pts
-Thunderwolf Mount
-Bite of Fenris (may take one item from relic of the Fang list)

Fast Attack
Thunderwolf Cav- 210 pts
-frostsword
-thunderhammer
-plus one additional Thunderwolf Cav

Troop
Grey Hunters- 113 pts
-Plasma Gun
-plus 2 additional Grey Hunters

This puts me at 488 pts.

I would like to add something to flesh out the points to a full 500. I plan on using my grey hunters to capture and hold objectives while my wolf lord and thunderwolf cav run around the board eating everything. What's everyone's thoughts on this list? Thank you for you help

At 500 points, switch to a wolf guard battle leader instead of a wolf Lord. It saves you 50 points which is 10% of your army. Now you'll have 72 points which is 5 more GH for you. Or you could spend that any way you want really.

Don't forget runic armor on the wgbl!

Good luck

Consider getting a drop pod for the foot pups? if they're going to hang back to maximise the distance between your cavalry and their lines, and you drop a pod of marines in their deployment to either side; you've got a fair chance of cornering the opposing force and forcing them the fight on two fronts. likewise, if a unit is capable of challenging the cav moves forward to attack, a pod can help overwhelm the isolated counter assault unit.

Too bad it has to be a generic Wolf Lord for the Deathpack, otherwise I'd be suggesting Harold.
Anyhow, if you're coming up to 488 I'd recommend a Fen Wolf as wargear for the Wolf Lord.
The Drop Pod is a great idea if you can cut the points to fit it in. Your Grey Hunters can land in your opponent's face and will get the re-rolls for shooting as the Wolf Lord runs past so it makes the Plasma Gun a lot less risky.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.
