so i bought one for my daughter for christmas and after looking into it i just keep coming up with questions.
as far as i can tell the only difference between the 3ds and 3dsxl is the screen size and maybe some bells and whistles right?
do they sell 3dsxl games or is it just regular 3ds games? what about the 2ds and ds, do they play on it?
she also likes to collect funkos and liked the infinity figures. i saw this has something called amiibo figures, are they a worthwhile investment? from what i can tell they may add skins or levels depending on the game. how do you know what amiibo works with which game?

i feel like the proverbial old man trying to figure out the tv remote.
dont linger too long before i chase you off of my lawn.

thanks in advance!

You are correct that the main difference between the 3DS and 3DSXL is the size. All 3DS games work for both. However to make it a bit more complicated there is the New 3DS (N3DS) and New 3DSXL (N3DSXL) which has slightly better specs, 3D, some more buttons and a few exclusive N3DS games. (New is part of it's name).

The 2DS is a 3DS without the 3D mode and without the fliptop design. It plays 3DS games and was designed for parents who are worried 3D will damage their children's eyes.

The DS is the older handheld console from Nintendo and does not play 3DS games. The DS games can be played on the 3DS.

I'm not really into the whole Amiibo thing, I prefer to buy minis, but AFAIK they just unlock some DLC and you'll have to read online to see what each one does.

It's screen size and it's a little more powerful than the normal 3DS.

Don't think there are actual 2DS games. The 2DS plays 3DS games without the extra 3D effect. It's kinda like a budget 3DS and is smaller than the 3DSxl

It should play most games from gameboy ones to DS ones.

Amiibo figures only work with some games. Say you bought Splatoon (A Wii U game, but the same principle) and have a Splatoon Amiibo, it gives you some levels and some cosmetics in game, that's it. They usually don't do much. It usually says what it's usable for or so on the box of the Amiibo or the game box itself I think.

If you do get her a 3DSxl... or any 3DS/2DS for that matter. Put the screen on a darker setting and maybe put it in energy savings mode. The battery will last a lot longer when playing. Mine used to run out of energy after 2 to 2 1/2 hours.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.
