It's been a long year for me. My baby girl was born which was awesome beyond words and completed my family. Six months off work with PTSD, not so great, but hey.

Anyway, I went a bit crazy and started reading the Black Library Horus Heresy books and have by and large, really enjoyed them. The only thing is I've read so many this year, that the storyline has started to get so bloated I'm starting to lose the plot! I've enjoyed the good writers, and suffered the bad ones, and I know it's basically a cash cow but I have enjoyed the breadth and depth of the 30k universe as written in the books.

And I know the bloat will only increase but I would really like to get an idea how many more books are planned, and what the release schedule is likely to be? Would anyone here be able to enlighten me?

Currently there are 42 numbered novels with up to book 47 having been announced and will be released in 2017. According to Laurie Goulding there are three more books to be written and released in 2018 before the Siege of Terra, putting the series to 50, with an estimated three book conclusion trilogy for the siege itself. That puts the total to 53 numbered novels with an estimated completion of the series in 2019.
