Is it ok to mix my squads with different bases? or do I need to rebase everybody? my old skool sternguard are all based on the smaller bases but decked out as deathwatch. I guess my question is thus. Do the old bases still count legally or am I dicking my opposition over?

The old bases work fine. They actually make your list more vulnerable to blasts/templates. You aren't screwing anyone. I rebased all my terminators, and that's it.

Thanks Martel. I will leave them then. Too many other projects to do and i was horrified at the idea of rebasing 150+ marines.

While it is not illegal, and I would not refuse a game, I would prefer that bases were not mixed within a unit.

For example, a 10 man Tac squad on 25 mm or 32 mm I would be fine with. The same 10 man Tac squad joined by an IC on a different size base is also OK. I would prefer to not have 10 marines, 4 on 32 mm, 6 on 25 mm bases.

Again I would not refuse to play against it.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I feel the same way and it's purely aesthetically driven.

Homogeneous bases among individual squads just look better in my opinion so while it wouldn't be a deal breaker to play against an army with mixed-base units, it would look ugly and violate the rule of cool.

On the other hand, if the standard marines were on 25mm bases, and the Sgts and ones with special weapons were on larger bases, it would make it quicker to spot the ones that weren't just basic Marines.

A new day, a new time zone.

At the most basic level, there's no problem at all mixing base sizes within a squad. I do agree that it jibes better with my aethestic sense for them all to be on the same base size, although having just characters on the bigger bases would look good too.

I used these to upgrade my bases. Not perfect but it works. Biggest complaint is some fit tighter that others. But its better than rebasing the entire model.

I have my Space Marine Bikes with the rounded bases and the old square cavalry bases in the same units (due to second hand purchases), and while it kinda bothers me (and I would someday maybe fix), its not that noticable on the tabletop, and I dont try any measuring abuses or advantages.

You can, within reason, use any base size you like. The rules allow this.

It's somewhat inconvenient that my newer MK4 marines I use for MEQ zerg lists have 32mm bases while my heavily converted and upscaled 'elite' marines are on 25mm since they are older, but it's not too bad.
