Hi all,

I am the producer and director of the movie Warhammer 40,000: KILLTEAM, which is a movie based on a Deathwatch Kill team. I am looking for artists and CGI artists to help in the creation of the movie. Please contact me at thehighlordsofterra@gmail.com or at our facebook page The High Lords of Terra(https://www.facebook.com/Thehighlordsofterra/?fref=ts). We will be posting updates and the link to our Kickstarter on the Facebook page within the next couple of days.

Thanks Everyone

How was dealing with GW to get the license?

*Edit* I see on the FB page that this is not an official product endorsed by GW.

Good luck with the KS, though I'm not sure how that works trying to raise money for a non-licensed movie using someone else's work.

Sorry for the delay, Currently we are unlicensed the main thing is that we are working to gather a following to show GW that there is interest so they can basically take all our hard work and milk it for what they can.

Currently we have a large portion of audio files as we are compiling sounds (like moving Space Marines) and I have written a majority of the script currently. I am doing my best to find animators now so that when I am finished I am able to send the script out to my team and they go and do the recording etc.

so you have a script and sounds but no visuals and no license...

seems like you'd be better off making a full-cast audiobook, at least you have everything you need for that, and you can animate it later if there's sufficient interest

That is our current back up plan if we fail to gather any CGI artists. Ultimately, as everyone probably knows, GW are a bunch of special people when it come to going and producing anything for them and ultimately GW would need to like the audiobook as well otherwise we are at risk of a lawsuit.

You're not "at risk of a lawsuit". You're trying to write a piece of media using someone else's IP and audio files extracted from someone else's project, with no permission from either one. You'd have zero legs to stand on in any court in any country in the world (except possibly China).

Haha, nice China comment. Unfortunately I would basically have to tip toe around certain words and things because they are under copyright. I am basically doing my best to be able to say "Haha nope, You ain't taking more of my money you money hungry bastards"

This seems like a very aggressive viewpoint for someone who wants to use a company's IP to create fanfiction but hasn't talked to them about it yet.

"You can't extract sound effects from our movie and use them to make your own" is sort of on a different level than "money-hungry". And if you're actually going forward with this you'll probably have legal expenses that'll dwarf what any of us are paying GW for anything at all.

Fortunately the Deathwatch are one of the most cliched things in science fiction (see Starship Troopers for an influential source of the archetype) and ending up with something not lawsuit-worthy is probably going to take very little work beyond changing all the proper nouns.

This might even just be a better idea overall, particularly if you're not fond of the hoops you may have to jump through trying to acquire licensing.

I can't help but feel that referring to the owners of the IP as "money hungry bastards" in print (i.e. this website) may imperil any future negotiations you have with them.

With regard to the movie itself- how long are you planning for it to be?

Who is your target audience? Current fans of the setting or are you hoping to go for a wider appeal?

Earlier, endorsed and well funded attempts thus far have not been met with a good reception (Ultramarine). What are you hoping to do differently?

Yup, after calling them "money hungry bastards", I'm sure they'll allow you to use their IP! /s

Not a very professional way to go about this at all.

After the IP issue (and honestly compounded by it), the biggest red flag would be that he hasn't answered the "is this a paying gig" question, suggesting he's probably going to try to pay in "exposure."
