Hi! I'm painting some zombies and just applied GW's Blood for the Blood God for the first time. Neat stuff, I really like the effect.

But should you use it before or after sealing the mini?

I'm planning to seal with Vallejo Satin Acrylic Varnish. Is that going to screw up the blood effect?

Using the satin varnish, you will end up trading the gloss finish of the paint for the satin finish of the varnish.

Depending on how much of the paint you are using will be the deciding factor. If you are using a heap, then I would varnish first and then use the technical paint. If you are only using a little bit here and there I think you would be fine to apply it prior to varnishing.

Thanks, Winter. I'm only using a little bit of the Blood. And since they are already painted, I'll try it with the Satin varnish and see.

Fortunately, still have a bunch of other walkers to paint, so if this batch goes wrong, will hopefully at least learn something to make the other ones better (Erm, fortunately?)

I use my blood effect after for my plague zombies, I personally like the look of fresh wounds and blood. the varnish makes it look more like paint

Fresh look? - After varnish
Old/Drying look? - Before

I find a combination of both looks good.
