Couple of Daemon questions. Firstly, how powerful can non-God aligned daemons become? In many BL books you here of massive predators of many different shapes and appearances that are most definitely not greater or lesser daemons who are swimming the currents of the warp. For example in Ahriman a daemonic spirit is bound to the rogue Astarte Cadar's body and it appears very strong, similarly I believe the Blood Gorgons patron is also a daemon of undefined origin and seems very powerful. Non God aligned daemons seem far more interesting to me, the aligned daemons are somewhat restrictive in their appearance and capabilities whereas those who are not can be left to the imagination. I'm thinking of creating a couple of strong daemonic characters for my R&H army, I'm wondering how powerful they can become in relation to greater daemons and what exactly they are bound to.

Secondly how many other races can actually field daemons? It is implied I know that the primarchs are effectively the Emperors greater daemons as he stole a similar power the chaos gods use to create their followers to form them. Similarly the Eldar can obviously field an avatar. Obviously there are some races so poorly attuned to the warp that they would be totally unable: Tau, tyrannids. But have any other races? Orks? Dark Eldar?

Hmmm, not sure about the power levels of other warp entities (although my take is that given the nature of the warp, anything has the potential to be as powerful as is immaterially possible given the right circumstances).

On the daemon front, Dark Eldar are odd. Ostensibly, they're very wary of psykers and anything warpy in the Dark City as it would draw the attentions of Slaanesh. Also, they're psychically atrophied so are probably unable to draw enough power from the warp to summon daemons (although the Path series does indicate that this can be reversed).

However, they can field a number of daemonic units. Khymaerae are low-level daemonic warp predators that are captured by Dark Eldar Beastmasters. Also, Mandrakes are quasi-daemonic Dark Eldar/Daemon hybrids of mysterious origin. They don't appear to be warp-connected daemons, instead drawing power from an entirely different shadowy dimension. However, there is a short story where they side with Nurgle and try to invade Commorragh.

Oh, and I've come up with a semi-expanded Shadow War idea and need some feedback! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/726439.page
