Hey dakka! I just wanted some opinions.

I have been seriously considering bringing my DE up again, and to play a few games with what I have.

And I am just curious, how would you rank their codex and what improvement do they need? I hear a lot of complaints about their power level, but not as many about chaos and the such, although they seem less effective.

Thanks!
~Mikey

Good man check out some of the tactics and realspace raids over on the Dark City.

From what I gather, they're a far cry from the top tier Wraithknights, Wolfstars and Riptide Wings. However, their low base unit sizes with no mandatory sergeants lends them to efficient MSU tactics which with a bit of cunning can eke out wins against much more powerful codices

The base power from pain and combat drugs table needs some work and they need like a 15% to 25% cut in points cost for most things. They are fully capable of doing well and have a few good tricks up their sleeves but like Orks your playing with somewhat under powered units or units with obvious weaknesses you have to work around.

What dark eldar do well is spam a ton of poision shooting, high mobility, and have some fairly good and tarpit capable melee units (The Haemonculus Covens supplement has some underused gems in it). Its definitely not easy mode and certain matchups are extremely uphill but they have the tools to ruin a fair amount of higher tier armies day.

Hands down one of the worst, if not THE worst codex of all time. And I'm including Chaos Marines 4th ed. and 6th ed.

They have one build and like two good formations if competitiveness is your thing. They are arguably more competitive than their last codex but obviously don't stand up at all to the heavy hitters out there.

As far as creating a fluffy army that can stand a chance on the table, well lets just say that they completely gutted this army. They cut out every interesting special rule and made 90% of the units unplayably bad.

When people actively avoid the HQ section of a book, it's a bad sign.

Kill Primaris, Kill the Primarchs. They don't belong in 40K
