Cold-Blooded Saurus Warrior

Xalapa, Veracruz

I just this year started to enjoy the hobby, specifically Warhammer systems.

My very first experience (although as important as Warhammer is for the nerd mainstream I did knew about the games since almost always) with any Warhammer was all the last year with DoW and Space Marine. I had an absolute blast playing the games. So I took the chance to join the Army of your Dreams event and got my very first Start Collecting! boxes.

I'm looking to make two main armies: Lizardmen/Seraphon, and FE Tau, I just love the look and background of those factions, but I do have an ever expanding liking for almost everything else, and I want to get at least some SC! boxes to make simple collections.

A bit more about me: I study biology, leading towards a paleontologist career (wonder why I started a Lizardmen army), I like arts in general and sci-fi/fantasy in general.

Also I'd to start a hobby store TBH. Yet, that's difficult here.

You'll see: I'm Mexican, from Xalapa, capital city of Veracruz, but the nearest Warhammer retailer from here is 2-3 hours away, in other state. And it seems that I joined the hobby just when the few people that where too leaved. There was a couple of painting contest years ago, but it was from a modelism club, and are nowhere to be found now. I've heard that there is a Warmahordes club on Veracuz city, but that it's still 1-2 hours away from here, and my city does have a modelism store, but they don't manage any wargame. There was a heroClix boom on 2014, but not anymore. Also it seems taht years ago there used to be a shop called "Dragon's Lair" on this city, but it closed not even a year later, as well as at least two wargaming stores.

Fortunely I've got the interest from some of my University collegues, but some many of us already ended the first degree, or went are taking semesters on other institutions, or already working, and, even while the main campus of Universidad Veracruzana is on this city, and one could expect there could be some one interesed in modelling, the truth is that there an astonishing flux of stundents, both local from any place of the state and even from nerbay states. To make it worst... is Mexico. I love my nation but damn we are certainly a backward country: mediocre education, extremely low University graduate rates, the society promotes stupidity over almost everything and we are a pretty stubborn nationality. All of this makes for an absurd amount of "taboos", comparable to those from regular USA/European nations: "don't play that because it's for nerdes", "what are you? nerd?", "why buy stupid miniatures if I can party all night long", "there are better stuff", etc., and I'm just saying them with the more adequate words possible; we are raised to be pretty mean and to not accept those things that your parents don't want.

Certainly I will not play as much and often as I would like: on top of that our last governor took away enough money to leave the state at the edge of bankrupt, and if I want to play I'd had to go almost half country just for that.

But enough of complains, I already overextended and I just want you to know that there are hobbists like you on almost in any place! I wil not deter to collect stuff that I like a lot and which give me fun.

Not only that, but it seems that I started Warhammer just at the right time: I've investigated extensively (1d4Chan) and I almost can't believe that dark age that many veterans describes. Certainly the SC!, the boxed games and the new Battleforces are an accesible price more than ever to start playing Warhammer, and the icing of the cake this renewed interaction from GW on social media..

Any suggestion, from where should I go next on the forum or what could I do to start a store is of course welcome. Be sure that I will be around!

Have a great one!

Bienvenido Christian!

As far as I can tell, this kind of games always carry a bit of stigma, in any country. Just, the more you get older, the less you care.

I hope you will enjoy Dakka

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
