Can anyone take a building or does there need to be a slot for it to go into? IE Decurions cant take forts bc there is no fort slot.

I thought forts were their own thing? Most tourneys dont allow more than 1 though.

Just looking for clarification on restrictions

To be in a battleforged list, it has to be in a detachment.
Mainly a CAD.

Yes, fortifications are part of detachments.

Planetary Assault has some non-CAD detachments with multiple fortifications, but those are special games you'd have to agree with someone beforehand to play to be able to use those detachments. Otherwise, it gets to be a fairly sparse selection for including a fortification.

There was the comment in the FAQ trying to take fortifications to the extreme:

Q: Can I have an Unbound army comprising nothing but buildings?

A: No.

You only need a Fortification Slot if you want to be yours at the start of a game without a unit nearby or playing in a tournament.

Fortifications can be taken Unbound, but they can also be placed as part of regular Terrain before sides are chosen.

Tournaments usually have set Terrain and forbid Unbound, hence the need for the Fortification Slot.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?
