Hey all, having determined that my Kath Scarlet/hotshot idea just doesn't work, I'm working on an alternative build, a Decimator-something list.

Whisper is tempting, but I feel like there's just a few too many PS 10 enemies out there in the current meta, so my go-to idea was (naturally) a defender.

Specifically, I'm thinking about the most under-used (or at least un-usued) of the Defenders: Rexler Brath.

It struck me that Chirneau with Hotshot and fleet officer (to give Rexler an additional focus for his pilot ability) could be a lot of fun. Chirneau to strip tokens, Rexler with Juke, to get extra attacks through on focus-less opponents, and an extra focus for Rexler (later in the match) to flip all of his damage cards face up.

But in the chirpy-hotshot builds I've seen, there's also been a predator and gunner (which starts to get pricy) so that chirpy can try to miss on the first attack and gunner into a second shot (possibly on a different opponent). And I'm wondering how important that mechanic would be in a 2-ship build.

It should be noted that I'm thinking about Gen Hux for chirpy crew, which would make Gunner a waste, but he can pass focus at greater range, and it's not like Chirneau is using his focus for evade anyway...

==================
100 points
------

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (63)
VT-49 Decimator (46), Adaptability (0), Fleet Officer (3), Hotshot Co-pilot (4), Gunner (5), Dauntless (2), Counter-Measures (3)

Rexler Brath (37)
TIE Defender (37), Juke (2), TIE/x7 (-2)
-------
For this one, I wanted to add countermeasures as a way to ditch a target lock and not take a missile (miranda homing missile, I'm looking at you) or make an opposing Vessery lose his free lock (and potentially ruin Omega leader's day), but I could switch it for Predator... or Lone wolf, and give rexler Eng. mk II (in case of stress dealing lists)

Here's the Hux variant, I'm considering:

Rexler Brath (38)
TIE Defender (37), Juke (2), TIE/x7 (-2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Looking forward to your comments/critiques

Gunner is very important. Gunner is what lets RAC get consistent damage of his own, instead of just being a support ship that costs half your points. Without gunner your opponent spends tokens against RAC's shot, but then all you have to exploit their lack of tokens is a single 3-die gun. With gunner you have that 3-die gun and a shot from RAC, effectively doubling your damage output.

Thanks Peregrine. Would I be correct in guessing that you aren't a fan of the Hux variety? (1 unblocked hit vs possible 3-dice 2nd attack? )

Anyone know the release date for the Upsilon? No use contemplating a Hux build for CT regionals if it's not going to be out...

Hux is probably not worth it since you're only buffing one ship and wasting 2/3 of the tokens, and with HSCP + juke you're probably getting damage through even without the condition effect. Most of the time you're probably going to put the condition on RAC just so you don't have to suffer the defense penalty on a ship that cares about green dice, so Hux is just a more expensive fleet officer.

Once operation specialist comes out I can see that tossed on a gunner RAC, now it can be a support ship tossing focus to other ships or even itself and still do decent damage, or even go all three but then you're looking at a 58 point ship that can quickly be focus fired down.

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

Ooooh, yes. Ops spec hasn't been added to the squadron builder I use so I hadn't thought about it. But for the first build, that's DEFINITELY replacing the fleet officer (doesn't take an action or cause stress and I'm planning on missing a shot anyway )
