I am getting back into 40k after playing a little bit when I was a kid, I think I maybe had 500 points of unpainted space marines haha. Originally wanted to get into it as a kid seeing my uncles Crimson Fists army. He had well over 10, 000 points all painted to White Dawrf level at 8 odd years old this had me awestruck and I would just stare at them for hours. As I got a bit older I fell out of love with 40k and got into other things that my mates were also into and were cheaper but now here I am years later with the money to spend on the hobby but still no mates to play with, I'm sure I'll make plenty of new friends! Currently I'm working on a Khorne CSM/ Daemons army only have about 1000 points so far but I am really enjoying reading up on the lore and painting even though I'm terrible painting.

Welcome! Your story is a lot like mine. It was an older brother for me who had the army. Anyway, have a go and share even if your not the greatest painter (neither am I).
