Anyone else notice similarities between the duel the Emperor and Horus fought and the one Optimus and Megatron fought in the 1986 Transformers movie?
I've never read much about the actual duel and most of my knowledge comes from an OLD white dwarf which had a diorama of the duel.
E.G: Two powerhouses fight each other but one cannot bring himself to slay his enemy and as a result is mortally wounded. I've heard many people compare it to the duel in Return of the Jedi but to me, it seems more in common with the one in the Transformers movie [the one with Orson Welles] Is the duel really based on that movie or have I just got energon on the brain?

Its well known GW has very little problem taking things from a source material. Be its historic or fiction. But in this case I would say it is more following the classic good vs evil formula. You should, if interested, read some of Joseph Campbell. It will clue you in on classic western mythology and how the current media draws heavily on it.

So no. As epic as that movie was, I do not think GW lifted anything from it.
