So, the new Traitor Legions book allows the Iron Warriors the unique opportunity to take 1-3 fortifications in their detachment (or more if inclined to take more auxiliary options).
So, with that in mind, i was thinking of taking 3 pairs of the wall of martyrs weapons batteries all armed with battle cannons (so, 6) to make use of the rerolls to scatter.for ordnance weapons.
With them around the battlefield, id have havocs, regular marines, and chosen from the warband running around in rhinos with havoc launchers and special weapons to grab objectives. The lord would be in termie armor with a unit of 3 termies to drop in the back field and kill whatever's left when he arrives.
What do you guys think? Is 6 too many to be on the competitive side of friendly? I figure they're pretty much immobile leman russes for half the price, and it's not like they're strength D, how rude can it be?

Seeing as you can reroll them, I'd say it might be a good idea against Eldar lists. You might suffer more vs Gladius and Centurionstar, so you'd need anti-psyker defense.

I know the warband choice gives you objective secured but does the "strongholds of chaos" give you anything or is it just the 1-3 fortifications?

The enemies of Mankind may employ dark sciences or alien weapons beyond Humanity's ken, but such deviance comes to naught in the face of honest human intolerance back by a sufficient number of guns.

Psychic defense could be useful. What would you take? An allied herald or two with pink horrors as batteries?

No, "strongholds of chaos" doesn't give any bonuses, and it's not even a real formation so it can only be taken as part of the IW specific detachment.

Do you still shoot when you're forced to target the nearest unit with your blast weapon when the unit happens to be invisible?

So, yeah, not great in competitive deathstar meta. Ok for friendly games though. Battlecannons are not amazing for quite some time. Battlecannons that can't choose their targets doubly so. There's a number of things they can't hurt effectively or hurt at all. Like ravenwing, any invis, spread out things with good covers/invuls/2+/fnp, rhinos - you'll need most of the cannons per turn to destroy a free rhino in 5+ cover.

Basically, it depends on meta. In my meta they'd be fine vs like 5% of the opponents.

Also, take note that it won't be easy to place them effectively as they have to be 1" away from other terrain pieces. Heck, it's sometimes hard to place a singe bunker without messing your unit's deployment on maps with proper amount of terrain.
