Trying to make a Grand coven that includes Magnus and is competitive at 1850..
Having a tough time and whoa is my list lean... I'm definetly going to have to use a sorcerer for summoning to get some horrors on the table for more bodies and warp charges...
Any ideas to help this list with the restriction that it stays a Grand Coven and includes Magnus at 1850?
Core-War Cabal (1100 pts)
Exalted Sorcerer- level 3, spell familiar, athanean scrolls.
5 Rubrics in a rhino w/ dirgecaster
6 scarab occult w/ soulreaper Cannon and missle rack
Sorcerer in Term armor, level 3 with MoT, spell familiar, Astral Grimoire, force axe
Sorcerer, level3 MoT, AoDG, spell familiar, force axe.
Auxiliary- 100 pts
Helbrute
Command - 650 pts
Magnus
1850 pts total.. 17 warp charges to start... This was most WC I could get with the few lists I made using these restrictions.
Want to keep athanean scrolls for psychic powers that can't be denied, want to keep termie sorcerer with astral grimoire to go with occult for jump termies...
Anyone see improvements I could make?

Maybe cut one sorceror (pretty much the only thing you can cut)
And take an allied detachment of daemons or the lorestealer host/

Is the Hellbrute competitive? Mine ALWAYS dies. And while Magnus is amazing, I'm not sure if he's 1850 amazing.
I'm still list testing, but I've come up with more than a few ideas. The Tzanganoor Herd is pretty good!

Perhaps a small point, but what use is a Dirge Caster for Rubric marines. Its not like they intentionally charge often. Perhaps melta bombs on the unit champ would be a better spent 5pts?

maybe lose dirge castor for melta bombs on your aspiring sorcerer.
I did not know exalted sorcerers could take familiars.
Are you stacking your sorcerer and exalted sorcerer in your rubrics? I assume your termie sorcerer is going with your termies?
List looks fun!

More and more as I try and make TSons work in their Decurion I think the Warherd is key, you just desperately need the bodies.
I really like a big brick of Scarab termies though, the blessing bonuses from a War coven really makes them much better and with an Astral Grimoire they can get around.
But Magnus I think needs to have an army built around him to feed him warp charge with summoning to augment his armies lack of troops. We are just too expensive to try and have our cake and eat it too, I think if you like Rubrics you need to be in a CAD to get Obsec, Scarabs in the Sekmet Conclave for the Toughness bonus or a min War Coven for the blessing bonuses, Magnus in a Rehati Conclave to make a flying circus.

Yup,
I kept going back to the war heard also, plus they look cool, but lately feel I am going with 3 vindicators and summoning horrors.

If you want bodies, pick horrors. Unlimited, cheap bodies that respawn upon dying and have a 4++ save in a pandaemoniad. Oh and also they give you warp charges.
Tzaangors are only good in their formation to gain fleet and run+charge, and to do that decently you need 3 units of 20. That's a lot of bodies, but also a lot of points and a lot of units that do not contribute to the psychic phase.

Thought about folding a Brimstone Conflagration formation in there. Not only is it dirt cheap but allows you to field multiple Brimstone horrors which are amazingly cheap WC units, they can force dangerous terrain tests when units charge them and then you can sacrifice bases for wall of deaths attacks in combat. 10 d3 st4 ap4 for 30 points is not to be snuffed at.
