I'm building this list as part of an escalation of games to learn how to best use Tyranids. How do I improve on it?

Tyranids CAD

Hive Tyrant w/Scything Talons
3x Zoanthropes
5x Gene Stealers w/Adrenal Glands
5x Gene Stealers w/Adrenal Glands
10x Hormagaunts

how many points is your tournament going to? Also I would look into doing a flying hive tyrant its kind of cheese but at such small points he will cause a lot of damage and chances are your opponent won't have to much to use to deal with him. -
Also look into getting one of the subterranean choices not only do they do damage when they "pop" up but the snooty version can do a lot of damage also plus cause some back table panicky for those pesky artillary choices. I'd look into getting another of the spawning ones and a few more boxes of gaunts if you do those bad boys can pump them out. I don't know the names but I've been tabled by my buddy who's a tyranid player constantly so I'm just letting you know what his starts are.

Not too bad! I'd suggest looking at your "upgrades" though...the clear monster at low points is Tyrannofex, so I would build a list to support it...

SO, Tyrannofex, Acid spray, Thorax hive: Electro grubs, Hormagaunts to screen (check) Synapse to escort (Zoey, check, and it can buff or Lance) so needs a Venothrope...if you can find points...

Stealers are not very good. So you can lose a Brood, or just trim off the Adrenals...you only need 45 points (You can swap one Zoey and save 5)

Termagants are good for camping. The major cost would adding Wings to the Tyrant. If you need to stay on the ground, you'll really Want a Thorax hive of Electro grubs (you Aways want Electros LOL)

Tyrants also do "best" with twin Brain Leeches, it's just completely superior to other choices.

Good luck! And welcome to the Hive Mind!

Thanks for the tips. I think Gene Stealers can infiltrate anywhere.

Thank you for the write up. I adjusted the list slightly based on your feedback:

Hive Tyrant w/Bonesword, Electroshock Grubs, Scything Talons, Wings
3x Zoanthropes
5x Gene Stealers
10x Hormagaunts
10x Fleshborer Termagaunts
Tyrannofex w/Electroshock Grubs

By the way, what unit or upgrade allows for spawning more gaunts?

Tervigon, if you have a x30 Brood of Termagants, you can take it as a Troop (and it can take a Thorax hive )

If you have points available Hive Commander lets you Outflank etc one Troop, so you can threaten to pop it into the foes backfield, and then spawn Termagants for a screen etc.
Tervigons are also Synapse, and get a power of the Hive Mind. Sadly they are a little over priced for what they add... But again at low points levels they can be very good performers.

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER
