I've been using Vallejo surface primer lately, because it's quite humid here in the winters and i can brush it on.

What have you guys found, does the paint stick better to Citadel sprays, or the Vallejo Surface Primer?

Not really noticed much difference in terms of painting behaviour. I like the Vallejo Primer because airbrushing it on is far more cost-effective than rattlecans (which always seem to clog while half-full). The vallejo stuff is smoother, slightly glossy compared to the slight gritty finish I've had from GW sprays.

Well I've found paint goes on slightly better over Citadel sprays compared to Vallejo primer, but it's not a huge difference and I haven't bought a Citadel spray in years so I don't know if their current offerings are as good.

I use Gunze Mr Surfacer 1500 which I airbrush, it goes on silky smooth when thinned with a self levelling lacquer thinner. I find it both sticks to plastic better and paint sticks to it better than Vallejo's primer. But I don't often hairy brush it.

My 2nd choice is rattle can sprays, but as I said I haven't bought a Citadel one in quite a while.

Does the Gunze product sand well? I find with gap filler or areas I may have gone at with a file or something (particularly on the light beige plastic of some of the RTB01 marines that I use for my army), it's difficult to see if I've got anice smooth finish until after the primer is applied. often I will go back in and sand and prime again over top.

Does it brush on nicely? I have an airbrush, but I don't think I want to spray laquer thinner in my tiny apt.
