army size game aint realy my thing. i prefer to play many games in 1 evning then 1 big long one, and as sutch skirmish games are my thing.

sadly my knowlage of what exists out there is extremly limited.
i currently play and collect wings of glory and GF9: tanks. the fact that they have a very simple ruleset is a big plus as i hate games that has a rulebook that is the size of the ikea cataloge.

so, any1 know of any games?
scale or historical setting dosent matter, aslong as it is a skirmish game.

I am a fan of the new Walking Dead: All Out War skirmish game but if that's not your thing then Frostgrave is meant to be very good.

My daughter and I have been enjoying A Fistful Of Lead, a Wild West skirmish game. Tons of fun, low cost to entry, you can use any figures you want.

PDF version here: http://www.wargamevault.com/product/187463/Fistful-of-Lead-Reloaded

An AAR from a game my daughter and I played: http://www.lead-adventure.de/index.php?topic=92593.msg1143857#msg1143857

You can have multiple players if you want, just a FUN game!

Look at the Osprey line of "Blue" wargame books. They have a ton of great stuff, lot's of different genres, 64 pages long, and relatively cheap. I have pretty much reviewed them all here: http://bloodandspectacles.blogspot.com/

If you prefer Fantasy, then Advanced Song of Blade and Heroes is supposed to be very fun. For Sci-Fi try Rogue Planet, The Fringe (?), Or Spaceport Scum.

When you say Skirmish games, do you prefer a linked series of Campaign games or Stand-alone games?

I second both choices.

Also, several of the titles by Ganesha Games may be a good fit for what you are looking for.

Walking Dead All Out War is fun. It seems very balanced and uses about four or so figures per side plus a number of zombies based upon the points level of the game. Frostgrave is also fun. It uses about 8 to 10 figures per side with the possibility of random monster encounters during play. The d20 system of it though can seem very swinging at times. It is not impossible for the lowest warband member to take out the best soldier type in one attack. Deadzone seems intriguing, but I haven't played it. It uses a d8 mechanic. Modifiers are always positive and add dice to the roll. The command dice mechanic seems interesting. I am anticipating Rogue Stars which comes out soon. It is a sci fi game using 4 to 6 figures per side. It is d20 based but appears to use modifiers and such to help with the d20 mechanic issues. Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes seems interesting as well. I have read the rules but have not played it yet. It uses a d6 system and an interesting initiative/reaction system allowing 1 to 3 dice to be used to activate a model with actions. Each failure allows your opponent to react. Or two failures on one figure can allow them to steal the initiative.

Super heroes? Knight Models Marvel/DC Universe Super heroes game(s). http://knightmodels-store.com/epages/afaa2a23-c31d-4ae6-b1cd-12757513fd3b.sf/es_ES/?ObjectPath=/Shops/afaa2a23-c31d-4ae6-b1cd-12757513fd3b/Categories/%22SUPER%20HERO%20UNIVERSE%22

Post-Apocalypse? Eden. http://www.taban-miniatures.com/shop2/

Japanese Fantasy? Bushido. http://www.bushido-thegame.com/

Gladiators? Arena Rex. http://arenarex.com/

I think all of them have the rules online. If you're really after quick play, small model count, light rules, multiple games, and low terrain count, I highly recommend Arena Rex.

Wrath of Kings- great game, really great and scales nicely, its patrol and skirmish sizes are very manageable and it plays model by model, not units. Also it is very affordable with its "starter" boxes being damn near full armies.

Confrontation- my personal favorite and a dark horse for its rarity (OOP) but it also is scaleable very well and its third edition starts you with small groups of models acting individually

Malifaux- well supported, small crews, individual model activation, still in print and very affordable. plays on smaller surfaces as well.

I cant recommend these games highly enough. If you want any further information (pics, more details, etc...) can post or PM.

Good Luck

Infinity - cyberpunk with an anime aesthetic. Small forces (8-15 models on average) on dense city terrain fighting it out with guns and cyber warfare.

As you can see, skirmish is a pretty densely populated part of the hobby.

I'm part of a club that plays predominantly small, rules-lite skirmish games that are affordable, play fast and allow you to use whatever figures you want. If you have the time to check out our blog (linked in my sig) you may find some inspriation and batreps for many of the games below:

-Song of Blades and Heroes or Advanced Song of Blades (From Ganesha games) and heroes for fast-play fantay skirmishes with 7-14 figs per person. We've been playing these for 6 years now and still love them

-Dragon Rampant (From Osprey Wargames) for Platoon level Fantasy Skirmish. If you've got 30-50 figs per side in squads but want to play a game that's not much longer than Song of Blades, Dragon Rampant is a great choice. It can also be a great game to play while you build your forces towards a KoW army.

-For Post Apoc battles that involve vehicles, Ramshackle Games' "Nuclear Renaissance' is a really fun game with some similarities to Necromunda and Gorkamorka.

-I still love Necromunda, specifially the cleaned up and balanced "Necromunda Community Edition" that is avaiable for free at yaktribe.org. Original Necromunda figures can be expensive, but there are alot of proxy options and it's got a great campagin system.

-if you'd like to sample the "Hobbit Strategy Game" (Formerly the "Lord of the Rings strategy game") without paying $70 for a rulebook you can find the 3rd edition "Return of the Kings" rulebook for extremetly cheap prices online. It's very similar (slightly more streamlined) than the current "Hobbit" edition and includes a ton of army lists. if you like it, you'll like the Hobbit. If you don't, then you can steer clear.

-If you have some random sci-fi figs (20-40 figs per side plus a light vehicle or two) then I highly recommnend Shock Force/Warengine. It was recently re-released as a pay-what-you-like PDF: http://www.wargamevault.com/product/192892/Shock-Force-Second-Edition
It's an extremely flexible system that has been ported into many other settings.

Two Hour Wargames has a pretty neat system and their base rules are free:
www.twohourwargames.com

Mordheim also has a living rulebook available for download.

DBA and Hordes of the Things are also great games if you want to play larger scale engagements in less time.

I can't recommend the above Two Hour Wargames systems mostly because they're just terribly written, and in dire need of an editor. Fair warning, there IS a great system buried in there, but be prepared for a lot of "clunky" reading to get to it.

Oh, and I am surprised no one has mentioned This is not a Test, which, for my money, is the best skirmish game on the market right now. Very fun as a one-off game, and outright incredible if run as a very casual/loose campaign.

Gonna echo Knights Models Marvel or D.C./Batman. People seem to love Infinity. Dark Age has like 3-5 models a team, I think. You have a LOT of choices!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Wild West Exodus, Knight Models marvel and batman, imperial assault skirmish... these top the list for non gw skirmish games. They are quick , easy to get into, and some have large tournament scenes (imperial assault for sure).
