First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong place mods, please move it if it is.

I'm currently looking at getting a better pc that I can use for gaming as my current pc is unable to run anything particularly demanding I have a budget of about £600 for the pc (not including mouse, keyboard or monitor). I've currently got two options this pre built one or building one using these parts.
What I would like to know is which of these is likely to be better (performance wise) or if there is anything better that I can get for a similar price.
The kind of games I'm hoping to run are overwatch, total war warhammer, rocket league and possibly the latest incarnation of skyrim.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The pre-builts processor is better, and it has more RAM, even though it doesn't say what kind. Other than that it looks like your build is better, including your video card, which from the sounds of it is what will be most important to you anyway. IMO the only good thing about pre-builts are the warranties, and that pre-built doesn't have any. I'd go with your build.

The only thing I'd recommend is going with a Thor case. They look ridiculous but they're very quiet cases, if loud fans are something that annoys you.

That is a fairly old processor in the pre-built. Like, four generations old now. I think you'd be overpaying for the RAM and processor in the pre-built, where the graphics card will be your bottleneck. You'd be better off building your own, where you can upgrade to a 1060 3GB if you can afford 630 pounds vice 600. For that 30 pounds difference, you get a fairly significant jump in graphical performance, and you won't bottleneck. Plus, you really don't need 16GB of ram off the bat, and you can always stick more in later.

Oh, and you can get a better looking case than...that thing the pre-built has.

Try This

You need a CPU cooler, which is included. I removed the monitor for sake of making a comparable dollar amount.

Thanks for the great replies, they are indeed helpful.
I also came across a couple of pcs from chillblast that I would be willing to stretch for, question is are they worth the money?

If you're willing to stretch to 750, you can get better bang for buck building your own anyways.

This has a better graphics card than both options, the same or better CPU, and now has 1TB of normal HDD as well as 250GB SSD for the PC to boot super fast and keep a few rotating games on.

Alternatively, get less SSD and get a slightly better case and other small parts, or drop the SSD altogether and get a 1070.

For any pre-built, I'd always want a store with a warranty. You never know which particular parts they chose to cut costs with. For the money, go to a reputable vendor if you aren't comfortable constructing it yourself.

Thanks for the recommendation, those parts come to £780 which is a fair bit more than I'm able to stretch for, I'm quite tempted by the chillblasts simply becuase they have a 5 year warranty and the offer for £30 off peripherals, which might allow me to get a better keyboard than I might otherwise get. Not to mention they are pre built which will save a lot of work.

I'm not sure how the warranties work, but if you aren't allowed to open them up, I wouldn't want a pre-built. Something to look into.

Otherwise, I'd strongly recommend trying to squeeze a 1060 in your build (which you can do in your own custom one, if you drop the SSD) because it'll last you a lot longer. With your own custom rig, you can open it up and swap out parts as you please, which means you can add in an SSD later, or more RAM as the need arises. But spending the money for a good processor and GPU will pay off in spades later. The 1060 is a significant jump in performance. Google some vids showing comparisons of a 1060 vs 1050 and you'll notice sometimes a difference upwards of 30FPS between the two cards.

Everything Blacksails is saying is spot on. If upgrading from a 1050 to a 1060 means dropping the SSD, it's totally worth it. That's something you can always put in later, especially if you can find one on sale.

Do you need to get a new monitor, mouse, and keyboard right away or is it something you can wait on? I'm always of the opinion that money is better spent on hardware first and peripherals second.
