Hey guys, I am looking to build some larger buildings and cant deiced on what material is best.

My first test build will be an imperial bastion as its pretty much straight walls and some openings to shoot through. What do you guys think is better as I have read both are good.

Both, is probably a good answer. Build the basic structure with foamboard, and clad and detail with styrene.

Ta shall look at doing that.

if you go for 100% plasticard it will cost a fortune.
I recommend foamcore structure with 1mm cardboard detailing (the browny grey stuff that's sometimes used for packaging or the back of writing / drawing pads).

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

I agree with the above. Plasticard is too expensive to build completely from. Now, do not forget the really old trick with packing styrofoam. Take a sheet of the little ball type (you can buy them at a diy) break its edges and it is instant ruined building. Paint it black (not spray paint) and wash grey/white. Cheap, not super detailed I know, but good bulk terrain for buildings.

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

You can spray paint it...To look like a melted building after a flamer attack

Shall look at saving all the foam and poly I can

IMO spraypainting the raw styrene just makes it look "too much". Could work for some settings, but for buildings the term "building" would probably be way gone once you're done.

Cover the styrene in a 50\50 mix of pva and water before spray painting and you should be fine. Partial pva cover could really create some interesting effects

Also look at Sintra.

It's foamed PVC.

Unlike foamboard it can be both superglued AND rattlecan spraypainted. It's lightweight, but somewhat more durable than foamcore.

It's a building material, but certain plastics manufacturers will also carry it. Cuts with a sharp knife blade. Wears blades out faster than foamcore, too.
A bit more rigid than foamcore, but not as rigid as decent thickness plasticard (3mm sintra can be made to form curves without heating - 3mm plasticard has to be heated to form curves).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
