I order to keep all my Scrappaz and Meks out of trouble, I'm always expanding my force with new builds. One of the projects in the pipeline is an alternate gunwagon. I personally want 3 so I'm building it with as a casting master. Once I've worked out the kinks I'll offer it up on the webstore. Here's the build so far:

Got the cab distressed and the welds in.

Riveting done on the hull, and some plate detailing done.

Work has started on the front road wheel.

I glued two soy milk carton caps together and filled with resin.



Then I cut and applied the hubs and treads:

As I began the track modules I found that they would be the same size as the one for the OrKV-2 grot tanks I'm building, so rather than double up on the work I modified the gun wagon chassis so those tracks would fit. Started with these:

Saved a bit of work on that one.

You have so much more patience than me. Nice work. My one critique is that I don't like the rough weld edge detail. It rounds everything too much more me and it loses its war vehicles character. I would recommend full metal panels with maybe some nicks and weathering and minor welding on the edges. Plus, Orks ain't real smart, but even for them welding is a little redundant with all the bolts.

I actually really like the welds - and orks definitely do weld - burnas are actually tools as well as weapons

love the detail of the tracks too!...just a really well done, and clearly well thought out build so far...nice work

It's all very good, but those tracks are incredible! They are so straight, is it one piece recast or what?

The roads wheels are cast from a master build I did, but the units themselves are scratchbuild. A little impromptu sneak peek at another project I'm keeping under wraps for now. They are designed to be cast, what you're seeing are the masters.

Very nice! What about the links/tread of the tracks? They look so perfect, surely you didn't have the patience to detail each link individually?

Yes, each link is scratchbuilt, so each one is hand detailed. I have built castable links in the past and for personal projects they work fine, but for a casting master there are some technical reasons why they don't work as well.

in any case, nice use of the bottlecaps ...I am kinda wondering why you bothered to fill them with resin though...I would've guessed they'd be sturdy enough without it?

ahh that's better, and man that's a nice looking wheel! ...soo many rivets though! looks to be about 157 rivets/bolts on that one wheel...that's some patience you've got there man!

I kinda cheated for my orky rivets ...I went on ebay and bought a huge pack of 2mm faceted rhinestone thingies originally intended for use in nail art, about 20000 "rivets" for less than $10 ...they work great in my opinion, although they are probably a bit too chunky for a lot of things, being roughly 2mm wide

Finally got some dedicated progress done. Started the 'Ard Case for the Gun Wagon, once it's distressed and detailed I can start on the turret.

Mate, this is amazing i love it! Really like how you have got the solid military look an armoured vehicle should have but also kept orky and ramshackle. Nice work.

How are you achieving that welded look. Dremmel? Hobby knife? Actually melting the styrene?
