Looking at adding this guy purely for flavor, how's he play on the table top? Seems rather underwhelming.

Is a parragon of design failure in a codex revised in a rush to counter chapter house.

He was good back in 5th. Now he's kinda lame for how much he costs.

At least he's still an awesome character/model

That's disappointing, but about what I expected. Only reason I'm considering is to take advange of the Start Collecting formation (every infantry model near the Leman Russ gets 4+ cover) and to give the Heavy Weapon relentless, but 55 points might be better spent on a second Vets squad.

Yes exactly, that or for 10 points more you can get a chimera to put the vets into! I think he is without question the most over priced unit in the game for what he does.

If he conferred infiltrate I would consider taking him. As is? No.

He used to give the whole squad stealth and more importantly relentless, meaning you could have a second heavy bolter team with him firing on the move along with whatever else you wanted to bring. Also he gave the squad infiltrate, move through cover, and stealth.

And he still cost 55pts back then and was considered expensive. Why on earth they slashed all his special abilities (and took relentless away from the squad) I'll never know. He was hardly the most powerful thing in the codex.
