I had an idea while I was stuck in traffic earlier. So we have Special Characters in the HQ slot, but what about special, unique tanks? Each would be available to a tank type and exclusive to specific faction/Chapter/etc. The upgraded vehicle will have the Unique and Character types in addition to their original type. Any vehicle upgraded in this way does not pass any of the benefits of the upgrade to any vehicles in the same squadron.

Here is an example:

Crimson Fists - Rynn's Might (Land Raider, Land Raider Crusader, Land Raider Redeemer, Land Raider Excelsior) - 50 pts
The upgraded vehicle gains the Unique and Character types. The upgraded vehicle gains It Will Not Die and ignores the effects of Crew Shaken and Crew Stunned results on the Vehicle Damage Table.

I will think of a few more later. I was thinking something like a Predator that can Ignore Cover or something.

Those are famous tank COMMANDERS - OP is talking about unique tanks themselves - like the Ghost Tank from Sgt. Rock or Yarrick's tank (forget the name of it). Think of the tank, Fury from the movie of the same name.

Feasibly, you could do the likes of putting Pask in Rynn's Might, for example.

Precisely. They do serve a bit of the same purpose though. These would be a little bit like Legacies of Glory, but they would be unique and much more limited on what they can be applied. A bit like relics, but in the form of a tank.

Like the chapter with a 3000 year old Rhino, or a particularly famous and honoured vindicator.

Could of broken the last bastain of a great enemy fortress, a preadetor that slew a particaly reviled enemy.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Sorry, I might be missing something here but how are these different from legacies of glory/legacies of ruin? Like relics, each one can only be taken once per army.

In fact your idea to make a predator ignores cover is, I believe, the first legacy of glory you can take.

They are unique to different chapters. Perhaps they could be limited to one such vehicle per army, making them even more limited than the Legacies. I forgot each Legacy was one per army though.

I guess these would be like themed legacies of glory. I did forget to give Rynn's Might "Vent Plasma Reactors", where it explodes when it loses its last hull point.

So like having a venrable chaper rhino that can ignore terrain tests

A vindicator that can fire and move at gull speed same turn etc

Each is only one per army. Limited to one despite allies or extra cad ect.

I think I may have been thinking a bit more specific, actual unique named tanks like unique named characters. Like unique characters (Cato Sicarius), they would have specific load-outs built into them you couldn't further modify (the baneblade, Fortress of Arrogance).

That would be interesting. And possibly fluff violation on a galactic level.

That might be a better option. In the case of Rynn's Might, it would be a unique Land Raider (God Hammer type) with IWND and Ignores Crew Shaken and Crew Stunned.
