hi !

I had been having some trouble with maintaining the correct paint consistency

I can get it watered down close to right -- i see in painting videos, paint flows perfectly off the brush after they thin it perfectly without being too runny - but mine will often dry up very quickly

this is probably because my light is pointed towards my palette but anyways..

I decided to experiment at making a wet palette to apply Khorne Red

I used paper towels under wax paper and added water.

I had read that the paint would absorb water from underneath the wax paper but it only seems to take the water I manually mix into it and while it does stay wetter longer, i'm not 100% on its functionality so far.. it's about 80%..

is there any way I can improve or any specific wet palettes that would perform better to buy?

I think you are doing it wrong. I don't know what wax paper is, because I do it with Kitchen/Cooking/Baking Paper that looks like this - http://www.betterliving.co.nz/files/Products/Glad/glad-cooking-paper-25m-dispenser.jpg

Also, I've made my wet palette following uncle atom guide:

Yeah, you need parchment paper not wax paper, was is water proof, where the parchment paper is water resistant, so it lets some moisture through, letting your paints stay wetter longer.

hi, yes i used parchment paper actually and followed the same video but it turned out just ok, its decent but not perfect... it doesnt seem to soak up much from the bottom and im thinking the slower dry-time is resulting from just the cooler surface but i could be wrong havent used a wet palette before. are any pre made wet palette papers designed specifically for this function any good ?

for example:

Don't waste money on those premier palette things... but don't skimp on the parchment paper either - get Reynolds genuine Parchment Paper.

Also instead of a paper towel get a cheap "Sham-Wow" type towel, they are super easy to find now at pharmacy or Target / Walmart etc...

I use an old Chinese food container with the Sham-Wow and parchment paper. If I close the lid when I'm finished, the paint has stayed good for weeks!!
