I just recently got a Stormtalon gunship for free at my LFGS (for christmas of course) and since I play chaos, I've been trying to figure out ways to pimp it out Chaos god style.


And tips or ideas or.. anything? I'm stumped.

Add bestial heads to the ends of weapons, some daemonic flesh in recesses, and deface imperial iconography.

im very knew to this whole "conversion" and kit bashing so I don't really know how to do any of that

Okay the daemonic flesh might be a touch complicated if you've never used grteestuff before (though there are easy alternatives... http://fantasygames.com.pl/nurgle-daemonic-skin/)

But basically you just want to cut off all the Aquila's and such and sand down those areas to get rid of it's imperial heraldry.

Then get yourself a Chaos Vehicle Upgrade sprue and go to town with whatever you think looks good. If you ever get a look at one you'll see what Phantombap was talking aobut.

If you have little conversion experience, the simplest option is to say that it's only recently been captured from loyalist forces. So it will still look the same, except for Aquilas and other loyalist symbols being defaced and over-painted with Chaos symbols.

There isn't a chaos stormtalon, but chaos have their own good flyers (such as the Blight Drone or Hell Blade) that a converted stormtalon would do a good job representing. All of the FW chaos units are in IA:13

Why do you need it to look evil? Some guys like iron warriors are still pretty normal dont forget. Also there are recent rogue marines so you do not need to over do it if you do not want to.

Well I'm newer to the game (and the hobby) so when the manager gave me the stormtalon I saw it as a way to no look like a total lazy idiot. Not doing anything to the Gunship seems just lazy and uninspired

Thats the spirit. Welcome to conversions, everything will forever be too boring now.
As for Chaosification, grab some green stuff and get testing, you can do wonders with it. Tentacles, writhing daemon flesh.. endless. Its also pretty good when it comes to filing gaps and adding things that don't fit 100% flush.
My advice would be to figure out if you want the machine itself to be possessed or if its just been piloted by traitors. Possessed means goo and tentacles and weird eyes in places you wouldn't expect them. Traitor-manned means simply filing off iconography and adding some stuff from the Chaos upgrade sprues.

It's Chaos, go wild!

First thing to do - pick your chaos legion/warband. That'll give you lots to work with. If you're building Death Guard/Nurgle then you can chip bits out of the model randomly and add splothes of greenstuff or other crap to make it look Nurglified. Loads of awesome Nurgle conversions out there (and some are very complex) but essentially it's very easy to add random crap or damage the model to make it look Nurgle. If you're building Thousand Sons you can find loads of Egyptian iconography bits on Ebay and from third parties (look for old Warhammer Fantasy Tomb Kings in particular). Khorne you can find loads of Khornate symbols in the chaos vehicle sprues, just whack a load of them on it and any random armour pieces you can find to make it look like they've just riveted loads of armour plates on it (lots of these little pieces on chaos vehicle accessory sprues and they're cheap on Ebay to buy if you need loads). Slaanesh is a bit more complex but you can find loads of tentacle parts to throw on there (Chaos Possessed kits, Aspiring Champion accessory sprues, all sorts of chaos kits). No reason why you couldn't re-purpose some marine tabard/robes pieces and paint themup like flesh to drape around it.

If you're building Alpha Legion or Iron Warriors then you don't really need to add much at all. Maybe some spikes (from chaos vehicle kits) for Iron Warriors. Nightlords you can buy up as many skulls and heads as you can stick them on as trophies. Maybe spikey chains too. Look for Dark Eldar accessory bits, tons of them in DE kits. Black Legion/Word Bearers are your more typcial chaosy looking chaos legions. You can throw in the Crimson Slaughter (everything from the Dark Vengeance box set) into that category too. For these chop the ends of guns off and stick on the gargoyle heads from chaos vehicle kits. Add some spikes. Add some more spikes. Stick chaos icons all over it. Add even more spikes.

Red Corsairs are your more piratey chaos faction, mostly newly corrupted to chaos. So they look much like regular marines with a patchwork of different legion colours and repainted armour. For these I'd add some simple battle damage (go at the model with drills and hobby knife to make bullet.shell holes) and throw on some chaos icons and random plates (to cover over the battle damage).

Most definitely scrape off the imperial symbols or cover over them with bits if you don't want to damage the model. If you're feeling up to it when you paint the thing you can paint on some simple chaos graffiti to make it pop.

It's really easy to convert chaos stuff as you get some many different bits in the kits and practically anything can be thrown on to make it look cool. Chaos are practically marine orks in that you have infinite conversion possibilities. you also don't need to be a master modeller to do it either!

Muck up the reactor so it looks like you're flying without core containment.
