Need some help with putting together a black legion warband as a chaos noob. Right now I have the Crimson slaughter box but can buy whatever I decide on playing however I would like to nail a list down before wasting money!

Below is a list of minis I like and if any of you chaos fans can help me make a solid list that's not hyper competitive but also not horrible.

Dark vengeance lord or terminator lord
Sorcerer lord ( this guy good?)
Terminators ( favorite )
Cultists
chosen ( models are amazing but read they kind of suck )
Marines
Raptors
Land raider

The easiest way for you to build your list is to look at the basic requirements for the Black Legion warband, find what you have and what you're missing.

You need 1 Lord and are allowed to have 1 sorcerer. So you can definitely take both.

You need a unit of terminators or possessed. Seeing as you have a unit of terminators and like them to boot, they're the natural option. At that, they can take the Land Raider as a dedicated transport (the only way to include it in the formation).

You need 2 units of Chosen or Chaos Space Marines. I reccomend going marines and using the Chosen from Dark Vengeance to represent unit champions. Not because Chosen are bad (my personal favorite unit, second only to the terminators), but because that particular loadout serves no purpose. A random hodge-podge of power weapons was useful to show off the new mechanic in 6th ed of distinguishing melee power weapons, but it does not make for an effective unit.

You need a unit of raptors, warp talons or bikes. You have raptors, so you're set!

Only thing you're missing is a Helbrute or a unit of Havocs.

I know Dark Vengeance comes with a Helbrute, but if you don't have that set I do reccomend investing in some Havocs. Always helpful to have (just nab a Space Marine devastator box and give them the appropriate equipment).

Other than that, if you grab yourself an auxiliary you can take the Tip of the Spear detachment from the Traitor Legion's book to make your Lord in terminator armor and terminator body guard capable of deep-striking turn 1! As far as your Sorcerer Lord is concerned, mastery level 3, no mark and a spell familiar is the most well-agreed upon build. Roll on Sinistrum and hope for Warp Fate (re-roll failed saves) and Death Hex (-2 invuln to your opponent's unit) for some real damage dealing.

The easiest Auxiliary is literally a single chaos spawn. The most popular is the Helldrake Terror Wing.

CSM bordely requires rhino. Best loadout is 2 meltaguns for 10 guys.
