Has anyone converted the Dark Vengeance bikes to regular Space Marine bikes? I am getting some of the standard bike fronts from my brother, and I am going to try to graft them on to the Dark Vengeance bikes. How difficult will this be? Are the fronts compatible, and if not, how much cutting will be needed? I have done a lot of small conversions in the past, but this will probably be my biggest undertaking.

I am not overly opposed to leaving the wings in place on the Bikers (I would use this one to make a Captain on a Bike for my Crimson Fists), but that is not ideal for me.

IIRC, the Dark Vengeance models are snap-fit, not proper multi-part models. It wouldn't be a simple matter of using part A from the normal bikes and part B from the Dark Vengeance bikes.

Not sure if it's possible, but if it is, you've got your work cut out for you.

Yeah, it certainly looks that way. I see now that the front part for the bikes drops down behind the boltguns, whereas the regular bike and Ravenwing upgrade parts slide in underneath. It should not be too difficult to cut away the parts under the boltguns to slide the regular fronts into place. I see that the backs of the boltguns are actually part of the Dark Vengeance fronts, so I will have to glue some boltgun backs to them so they look right. Overall, I have high hopes. It will only be two bikes. The Sergeant is going to become a Deathwatch Biker (with a new head, torso, and weapon).

You could also try just cutting off the entire front end of the bikes. Everything in front of the... engine, I think. I dunno how motorcycles are built, really. Admittedly I never assembled my DV bikes so I dunno how that would work with the riders.

At my desk

I made mine look passably not-heretical by cutting down and filling in the front wings with Greenstuff to make them smooth and then removing the giant tail wings and scraping off the DA icons.

I personally avoid kitbashing such models because it takes what could be six bikes and makes three, which is just inefficient to me but some people don't care.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

My brother has a lot of leftover bike fronts (he plays Dark Angels, I play Crimson Fists and Deathwatch), so bike fronts galore are available to me. At any rate, I will post the results here when I am done.

I have used Dark Vengeance a lot in the past since it is easier to get the models dirt cheap. My Crimson Fists Terminator Squad is based off the Dark Vengeance Terminators, and I have converted three DV Terminators to Deathwatch Terminators.

Not-heretical? Aren't these Dark Angels bikes? In what sense were they heretical to begin with?

They have been commandeered by the Crimson Fists and a chapter to be decided at a later date though! If it ends up being too much work to graft the standard fronts, that other chapter will probably be one of the Raven Guard successors so the wings aren't totally out of place.

Honestly, given the fact the Space Marine Command Tanks are swimming in wings, and they have Captains commanding them, perhaps the wings would be fine anyway. Still, if I can put a regular front on there, I will.

I think maybe we just have a difference in opinion of what consitutes "heresy" in the Imperium. I withdraw my questions.

Anyways, if the models are cheap, give it a go and experiment. Your collection will likely last for decades, so you can always try again later.

Yup. And one of the good things is that I will be able to cover a lot of the spots I am scraping Ravenwing emblems off with etched brass for the Crimson Fists and Inquisition emblems for the Deathwatch. Like I said, I will post results here.

Please do post results. GW models are not always as compatible as they should be. Plastic Dreadnoughts, for instance, have 2-3 different arm peg sizes between different kits.

I have done almost 15 of 25 bikes total using Dark Vengeance for my White Scars, and even converted up a few Chaos ICs from them also.

Filing off the Ravenwing symbol the front wheels is easy enough
The Wings can be carefully clipped while leaving the headlight and gun hammers intact and they still slide right in between the handlebar. But the wings still look good for modeling Independant Characters.
The teleport homer tail fin is an easy snip. Lastly, I file the Ravenwing icons off the rider himself. I snip the sword hand off the sergeant, reposition the arm, and give him a combi weapon instead. That part you need a lil green stuff for. The pistol guy, is an easy snip for a special weapon carrier.

But all the other work is pretty basic. Im always shopping for more of those Bikers online.

What I am actually looking at doing is cutting the regular fronts into three pieces. The bolters on the RW bikes have a piece that sits right underneath them that angles forward. This is the piece I was originally thinking of cutting out, but now I think I might work around it. So I will cut the sides off the regular fronts and glue them in place on the sides, and then cut the middle piece with the headlight out and put it in between the boltguns. Then it is just a matter of getting the backs of the boltguns to look right.

You have to upload it somewhere on the Internet then copy/paste the URL of the image to a post, basically.

You can also load it into your gallery here. All of my pictures I have were posted directly here. You can also put them in the Attachments when posting.

For example, this is a Terminator I converted from a Dark Vengeance Terminator into an Ultramarine Deathwatch Terminator. Still needs painting though. I grafted the chest piece and cyclone missile launcher from the regular Terminator kit to him.

That's a very nice conversion. It's tough to tell where the graft lines are. : D

I've converted a few Dark Vengeance bikes to Space Wolves.

Clipped the wings off the back and replaced them with claws or skulls. Took a stanly knife to the DA logos then repainted them.

I didn't bother clipping the wings off the front, just painted them gold and leadbeater. All Loyalists have the imperial eagle in their packets, Wings are hardly an Angels' exclusive heraldry.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Indeed, if you look carefully you can even see a skull set between the wings; this is the Angel of Death icon, commonly used by all chapters (the generic tactical squad includes a whole bunch of winged skull emblazoned chest plates).

I get that, but I want my Dark Angel Deathwatch Biker to look more unique. Which is why he gets to keep the wings but no one else does.

If you want him to look unique leave the wings on the back mudguard of the Dark Angels biker and make sure he has the robes and hoodie.
Clip the Wings off the back of everything else and replace them with different chapter specific bits of heraldry.

Call them the Purgewing.
