Like so many I fell in love with the Calth and Prospero plastics. I'm actually playing a Workshop game again which is a nice feeling. I started to put together a Thousand Sons force as I've always been a fan of their tragedy, and with the various Cults I felt I could do quite a colourful army (I do sometimes get bored with the uniform look). With that in mind I'm looking to collect a Legion more for playstyle this time. Whilst ultimately Thousand Sons full rules may be what I'm looking for, who can say no to more resin and plastic sitting, taunting me.

I'm looking for a force that can potentially control the game as much as possible. Dirty tricks are a bonus. Something that can really dictate the flow of battle and force my opponent to scratch their head looking for answers. I'm fortunate enough to like the fluff of every Legion on some level and I've narrowed my gameplay Legion down to a few choices, however I'm new to 30k so if there's a Legion that you think fits better by all means let me know.

I was thinking that the mobility of White Scars and Raven Guard would allow me to dictate where forces are engaged and might also allow for a few surprise shenanigans. Similarly something very durable such as Death Guard or Iron Warriors might be an idea as the durable units they bring by themselves force an opponent to think differently. I had considered Salamanders but they seem a tad slow. Finally I was also thinking that Ultramarines or Alpha Legion may fit the bill with their genericness and adaptability.

Any help would be much appreciated. Got a Christmas bonus burning a resin hole in my pocket.

Well, I'm biased but I'd say if you want dirty tricks it's got to be Alpha Legion. Their mutable tactics means you can choose a force that's all infiltrating or all tank hunting or anything you might need. That along with their Rite of War for stealing units, saboteurs for some nice start of the game explosions and the ever tricksy hidden Alpharius means you can really leave an opponent guessing.

I usually augment the unexpectedness with things like the land raider augury array (messing with enemy reserves) and a drop podded Leviathan to strike from an unexpected angle.

Plus the hydra theme is really cool.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.
