If so would you say it's worth the purchase for someone who has none of the models? I like the look of destroyers but not sure the formation is worth buying four boxes of minis and some add on spurs to run it. Pretty steep monetary and points commitment. We don't have many people in my group who plays necrons and the few that do don't run the formation so never seen it in action.
I run the judicator and the ever popular canoptek now and I wonder if the money would be better spent buffing them instead.

All the Destroyers are getting Shred and Sunder for no tax. Absolutely fantastic formation.

Destroyer cult is crazy good. I prefer it over Canoptek Harvest, every time. Make sure you sprinkle some Heavies in there too.

I used the Destroyer Cult a lot with the Reclaimation Legion. Yeah they are great and well worth the investment. To make the most of it make sure you take a unit of three Heavy Destroyers and a Heavy Destroyer in each unit.

Yep ^^
That's exactly what I use. Max squads with a Heavy in each and a squad of heavies. There's nothing it can't kill.

Super great formation.
Pros:
-Killy
-Resilient
-Tactically responsive with the jet pack assault move
-Strategically agile due to small foot print deep strike capability split across 3-4 units (+1 for the Lord)

Also what other Aux. you like to pair best with it? Judicator stalker for the BS boost with the heavy destroyers in the back field? Canoptek Wraiths running up field with lord for distraction? Or just the destroyers and a beefed up reclamation? Thanks!

Depends on how friendly you want to be.
Most army lists I see posted online are focused on Destroyer Cult + Wraiths [for tarpitting dedicated CC opponents).
The Judicator Battalion is a super fun formation, though it has a tendency to give up first blood to Drop Marines, IG, Eldar, etc., as the one of the few commonly played Necron vehicles without access to Jink. One neat collecting advantage to the Battalion is that adding Night Scythes as transports for the Praetorians is rather fun since they get to take advantage of the Target Designated buff.
If you want a friendlier CC unit than Wraiths/Praets, you can go for Flayers (who are way fun and flexible, since they can Deep Strike, Infiltrate, and/or Outflank), or Lychguard as a tough CC unit who help keep your Warlord super safe.
I'd say, your next Aux. is more based on what strategy you want to deploy on the tabletop than a specific set of dudes that go with Destroyes specifically. This is mostly due to how flexible, effective, and self-reliant Destroyers are already.

Alright last question with them having pefferred enemy and extermination protocols does that mean they can re-roll to wound twice. say first role is a 1 so reroll for preferred lands a 1 again and then roll a third time for extermination proto? Thanks for all the help/advice!

You can never reroll a reroll (that in the general principles of the rule book)
