Hey dakka, I have been wondering about the terminators in 30k.
What is the best armor variant, specifically for Word Bearers. I hear this debated a lot, they all look appealing, so any help?
What are they useful for? Again, specifically for Word Bearers, any general tactics I can use with them?
Thanks!

I like Cataphractii plate, as slow as it may be, the +4 invun is too sweet to pass up.

Until you realize you can't run, Overwatch, or Sweeping Advance in Cataphractii, but you can in Tartarus with its 2+/5++.

The answer with anything in HH is whatever you find most appealing and is most fluffy.
Cataphractii have a 4++ but can't run, overwatch or sweeping advance. These guys are probably more suited to deep striking or objective capture while maintaining a more flexible wargear load out like combi-weapons and chainfists.
Tartaros can do all of those things but is reduced to a 5++ invulnerable. These are probably better for close combat oriented squads being transported.

Alrighty, the reason I consulted y'all is because I can't decide on a plate I like more so I wanted some tactical advice.
I think I'll go with Tartaros then!

of the 3 types available, only take 2, catapractii gets you the 4++ with a couple of downsides, tartaros gets you sweeps, there is never a reason to take standard terminator armour.

Well Indomitus can overwatch unlike CataphractiI but is objectively worse than Tartaros.

yeah basically its pointless taking standard termy armour, as tartaros can do the exact same but better and catapractii has a better save

Cata is basically in your face, "Come at me Bro!" Terminator armor. These are the guys I take if I have a lot of initiative 1 weapons like PF/TH/CF, where they may be striking last. Great for sitting on an objective or being a wall for your hammer to nail your opponent to. Tar is much more flexible, and better suited for a shooty or non-PF/TH/CF (basically, anything at initiative 1 weapons) close combat squad.

I use Cata. I don't mind so much if I can't overrun, because typically whatever gets away, isn't much of a threat anymore, anyways.

From an aesthetic standpoint, in my humble opinion, Cataphractii look better than Tartaros for Word Bearers.
Something about the beefy shoulder plates and deep set helmet screams murderous intent, and the art stills I saw for them in books 2 and 5 looked super cool.
Either way I just want to see 30k Scarab Occult. :(

Probably the only reason anybody ever took standard armor was because it came in plastic. Automatically Appended Next Post: Not so much of a problem now that all versions are. And with better moulding.
