Hey dakka, I was wondering what your worst hobby injury as been.

I but up my thumbs quite a bit earlier this week, so that prompted the question.

But probably my worst injury would be when I was a very young lad, I bought a brand new exacto knife, and then cut open my thumb later that evening.

severed nerve in my index finger while pushing on a new scalpel blade. My bone stopped the blade going through my finger.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

I got five stitches in my pinky after trying to cut a plastic warjack from it's base (always cut away from yourself). Got a big splurt of blood on the floor too.

My second worst was like bubber, I cut into my left index finger pretty deep and now I have a little nerve damage. It's not terrible, just the surface touch sensation is missing from a little area, but if I'm holding or pressing something the deeper nerves still work so I know my finger is touching stuff.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Got three stiches and blood everywhere trying to make some terrain with an exacto blade. Once cut myself and drew blood with the Citadel Mold Line Removed.

Stabbed a bloodletter's horn(old metal ones) through my thumb once. Luckily no nerve damage or anything but it sure was painful!

I got a nasty cut in the side of my index finger, wasn't deep enough to do any serious damage, I was holding it like a dunce, pressing down into it, instead of being intelligent, had a mark on my finger for a while

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

Had something sharp and pointy, possibly chaos related, get jammed up under my thumb nail once. That sucked.

Most recent would be i was cleaning up an old rhino, prying off green stuff with a small screw driver when i accidentally drove the screwdriver through the rhino plastic, and into my hand.

The odd poke and drawn blood nothing serious. NO stitches or such. plenty of cursing and bloody paper towels.

I havn't stabbed myself in a long time now and hoping not to jinx it.

The only non-finger stab was when I knocked my hobbyknife off the desk and it fell blade first into my left leg. Thankfully it was spinning in its decent and only a few millimeters of blade impaled my leg. There was, of course, blood and cursing at myself for being an idiot but that's about it.

always cut away from yourself if you can help it, and always remove digits from the path of your blade if possible!

I cut my finger pretty bad when building an old bloodthirster. So I held my thumb against the bottom of the base. Kinda gross, but for the blood god, you know?

He's collected the skulls of many a smashfether and other things, though.

At my desk

Most of my directly hobby related injuries are just small (but thoroughly annoying) cuts on my fingers and thumbs. A few little scars here and there but they aren't a seriously problem.

However I did once find myself looking for a bit and swiping my knife off the table into my bare foot. The tip of the blade was even poking out on the other side! It's a fairly broad-bladed, single-edged thing so it must have had some rotation to get all the way into my foot. A little nerve damage directly in front of that area but otherwise just a lot of blood and a lot of pain.

Once poked myself in the eye with the thick end of a paintbrush and ended up with a corneal ulcer. Beyond that it's all just cuts and scrapes.

Oh goody, this thread again. It seems to be a yearly event.

X-acto #1 handle with #11 blade: Rolled off table and into top of foot, embedding itself to the ferrule - about an inch deep. Applied betadine and a bandaid. No significant injury to any part of the foot.

That's my worst gaming related modelling injury.

Worst electronics hobby injury? Standing on soldering iron (it was hot) while barefoot (I didn't have a desk at the time and was working on the floor). Left a 4" long blister and burn scar on the sole of my foot.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

I was working on a plastic pink horror and was trying to cut a piece off of it with a hobby knife and succeeded beyond my wildest expectations... I cut the part straight off and proceeded to cut the very tip of my index finger clean off and kept going into my middle finger. Didn't reach the bone, but when I got to the hospital the nurse said it was the middle one she was worried about. She was right. The tip of my index finger reattached perfectly, but the middle finger needed some stitches and still bears a visible scar to this day.

I later traded off those pink horrors.

I droped my scaple blade and the tip broke off ,i never found the tip until my partner sat on the stairs and cut her bum cheek where the tip had stuck into the floor , she had to have some small stitchs . The reason that this was my worst injury was i didnt stop hearing about it for weeks lol

Yeah, sometimes you just get hungry when you're hobbying though, don't you?
