Subject: What to do with a Proteus?

I picked up a couple of super cheap MK1 Land Raiders on eBay and am converting them to use as Land Raider Proteus.
Should I run them bare with just Lascannon or go with a Heavy Bolter/ Heavy Flamer as well? What about a pintle weapon?
I'd want to run them with explorator arrays for the scout move but what would be a good unit to put inside them (max 8 models) to take advantage of scouting or are they better left empty?
Anyone had any experience running Proteus?
Note: They will be running in an Iron Hands force so will have IWND for a bit of extra survivability. Worth sticking a Techmarine (and some servitors?) inside?

Maybe the Techmarine I guess but the Servitors are just too much.
Also I thought the space was 6? Either way, Honour Guard and even Vanguard work so long as you got a Chapter Master to tank wounds. Or even two of them.

Ah, correct, 8 normally, 6 with a explorator array.

The problem with the Proteus is that it's not an assault vehicle. Any Melee squad you stick in it will have to stand around twisting in the wind for a turn after they get out if you want to charge 'em. It's expensive, and a little useless in that regard.
I'd use it as an alternate delivery method for some kind of shooty squad that needs to be protected. Maybe a Command Squad with 5 meltaguns?

Sternguard might be neat then.

A tooled up command squad or sternguard sound like a good idea for passengers.
What about weapon upgrades then? I guess it would be worth sticking on a pintle multimelta if running a melta heavy squad inside just to help them kill whatever they are aiming for.
Any point adding a hull weapon (heavy bolter or Heavy flamer)?
